Blighted Ovum :( Looking for Hope...

Thanks everyone for your support...I was spotting. And had bright red and a clot one morning.

so I went for an emergency sonogram. the tech couldn't find the baby, so she did an internal. i am supposed to be 7 1/2 weeks but I only measured 5 1/2 weeks and there was no heartbeat

the tech said that if i'm 5 1/2 weeks, it could be too early to see the heartbeat but MW and I are sure of my dates. MW thinks I may have a blighted ovum (gestational sac but no baby inside). anyone experience this?

I researched it and found a few women who were diagnosed with a blighted ovum and it turns out it was a misdiagnosis. I also found some women who measured small and didn't see a heartbeat all through the first trimester but then when they crossed into the second trimester, the heartbeat was there and the measurements caught up. It was blamed on a tilted uterus.

I don't know if I have a tilted uterus, but I'm hoping and praying that I do!!!

I'd love to hear from anyone who had a blighted ovum--especially if it turned out to be a misdiagnosis. I'm clinging to the tiny ray of hope that I have

I had a blighted ovum once, but it was not a misdiagnosis. I was pregnant (but right off my BCP, which I blame it on), and feeling nauseous for 2 weeks, then the nausea mysteriosly went away. Great! I thought. At 8 weeks I had an ultrasound, but I had the technicians who couldn't tell me anything. And really, I had to pee so bad I just wanted to get it done with! But I do remember asking them very early into the ultrasound if they saw the baby and they said no. I guess I thought they would in a minute??? Anyway, two days later my dr. called to let me know the results of the ultrasound (because I had gone to a separate clinic). ANYWAY, she asked if I was sitting down, blah, blah, blah. She said there was a pregnancy sac but no baby in it and that I would probably begin to miscarry. I think it took a day or two, but I did begin spotting at 9 weeks and had a terrible two-month long process of miscarrying. Then I got online to see what had happened and I discovered the term blighted ovum for myself. I blame it on the BCP, like I said, and it actually made me feel better that the baby had died very early on, like just a little after implantation, and that I didn't have to pass anything into the toilet!

Interestingly, I also know of two other women that this has happened to, all the way to the 4th month! Then they had an ultrasound, or just started bleeding, and it was a "chemical" pregnancy the whole time!

I do not want to freak you out, but I figured you could sift through my info to maybe find your glimmer of hope.

And, that was my very first pregnancy, followed by 4 completely normal ones and I am now working on baby number 5.

Do you remember when you got your first positive pregnancy test? If it was within the last two weeks you may have ovulated late.

I hope everything works out.

I was told with my second pregnancy that I had a blighted ovum. Actually, the doc said "either you're really wrong about your dates or the baby is dead. Go home and tough it out."
Turns out I had ovulated several weeks late, and that "blighted ovum" (which is what my chart said) is turning 8 on Sunday.

I had a miscarriage in the spring that was diagnosed as a blighted ovum. I started spotting at nearly 8 weeks and the US showed a sac with nothing. My OB was optimistic that I ovulated late and that my dates were off as my first beta number (done that morning) was good. The second beta (3 days later) didn't double, but still went up, but spotting got worse. The following day (5 days after I first started spotting), it was clear that it was a miscarriage.

I'm so sorry that you're experiencing this, and that you have a happy ending to this.
