Chinese Herbs without acupuncture?

Has/does anyone take Chinese herbs, but not do acupuncture. I'm taking a formula I bought online called Women's Precious. I'm going to look into acupuncture, but doubt we can afford it right now.

Any thoughts/experiences?

TIA!

I know the clinic that I go to would probably have you do an appointment and might "allow" you to go several weeks with just herbs - I often call in for a "refill" and as long as things are going well and the herbs aren't changing how they taste (when they do this, it's time to change) I get more herbs without having to go in for another appointment.

If you tell the DTCM your situation, I'm sure s/he'd rather have a partial patient that may up their treatment later than a po'd patient who will tell her friends to avoid this practitioner.

Hello all!

I am new to this community and I found it when I did a search for successful pregnanices via chinese herbal. I have been seeing an chinese herbalist for the past 6 months. I've only been drinking the teas, wasn't offered acupunture. I did do acupunture once along with the last IVF cycle I did. I need a break from IVF..I've done it 3 times and I have only 1 cycle left that my insurance will pay for.  Has anyone achieved a succuessful and healthy pregnancy from taking chinese herbs? Thanks!joy.gif

oooh, i don't think i'd do chinese herbs unless under the guidance of a licensed acupuncturist and/or herbalist. How would you know what formula to get?  I could imagine an herbalist prescribing a formula without doing acupuncture, but in that case, you're still under the care of an experienced and qualified practitioner.  When it comes to my health, especially my reproduction, i wouldn't mess with it like that.  You could really make things a lot worse. Self-prescribing can be really dangerous.  i know people buy prescriptions online from canada all the time, but that really sounds risky.  I wouldn't do it with chinese herbs for the same reason.

Thanks for your concern....I am seeing a licensed chinese herbalist. She adjust my prescriptions when I see her every 2 weeks if they need to be adjusted.  I am not just purchasing herbs and taking them that's for sure.

mrskmoore, my post was in response to the original poster's question about taking a formula purchased off of the internet.

I'm taking Chinese herbs myself (prescribed by my fantastic acupuncturist), so maybe i'll be able to answer your question in a few months!

What about doing accupressure on yourself instead of accupuncture? I have the book The Infertility Cure and it gives a list of herbs to take as well has suggested accupressure points to do on yourself. You could google accupressure or get books on it from the library (library might have The Infertility Cure too...which is a really great book).
