Vent about Previa

At 19 weeks I was told I have an anterior placenta that is partially previa. This was determined by an ultrasound.

At 23 weeks I was told by another midwife that I have a complete previa. I told her what I was told by the last midwife and she shows me in the computer where the last midwife wrote down that I had a complete previa. She did not see my ultrasound.

Anyways she went on and on about how completes are less likely to move and that I'm very likely to bleed at which point I will be put on bed rest. And how you can bleed without pain and something as simple as sneezing could cause you to bleed. It made me feel very anxious.

I'm trying to remember what my ultrasound looked like. I believe most of the placenta was away from the cervix. So I'm trying not to freak out.l My next ultrasound is in 4 weeks.

I had partial previa with my last pregnancy at 20 weeks. They told me to be careful, no intercourse (whatever). They said it would likely resolve itself and move up as the uterus grew. So I had another ultrsound 12 weeks (?) later. It did move up and I was fine, but they sure caused me a lot of worry! For 12 weeks!

Hoping your next ultrasound is good!

My 20 week showed previa and my OB told me not to worry about it, as it is something that usually corrects itself. At 36 weeks we had our growth scan, placenta placement check, and the placenta had definitely corrected. Good luck for you! Move placenta move!

I had one at 20 weeks and it moved by 36, enough to be out of the way. I can't remember the numbers - but it barely got by. So it does move.

FYI, my mother had full previa, they didn't have sonograms back then. The only time they knew was when she started to birth and the placenta came out first at home. She never bleed during her pregnancy and of course was never on bed rest.

I had a complete previa which did not resolve, but I did a lot of reding about it and remainrd hopeful that it would resolve until the bitter end, which for me was an emergency c-section at 34 weeks. I had a bleed at 33.5 weeks, was put on hospital bedrest, and got an amniotic fluid leak 3 days later. The delivery was a long way from the totally natural childbirth I'd fantasized about, but at least the baby and I are both doing well.

IMO, activity restrictions are not all that important for non-bleeding, 2nd trimester placenta previa. The important thing is to not go into labor with a full previa (or, in most cases, a partial previa). Even the pelvic rest recommendaition isn't universal for before 28 weeks.

But yeah, when I had that bleed (and it wasn't very big), I went straight to the hospital. The doctors figured that the bleeding had weakened my amniotic sac, and helped to create the leak. What with being in the hospital (risk of infection), and the risk of extreme bleeding if I did start to have serious contractions, off I went to the c-section.

Most of them will move, though, given enough time.

Ugh! I'm so sorry, mama - there is nothing about previa that doesn't suck. But most previas DO resolve.

And your midwife would make me extra cranky. You have enough to worry about without being nervous every time you sneeze.

I had previa too - I delivered my daughter by emergency c-section at 32w4d. It was not how I wanted to do things, but we are all fine. There was a rough patch in there, but we came through okay.
