Weaning from breast and introducing a bottle at 10 months...

Hi all,
I breastfed my DS1 for 30 months, but can't do the same for DS2 for various reasons... He is 10 months old now and I need to wean him from breast and put him on bottle while I pump and feed him for a while and then hopefully switch to cow milk after he's 1 year old. But he hasn't taken a bottle since he was 4 months old. I have not offered a bottle ever since though, because I never had enough milk to feed him and pump at the same time. Now is it too late for him to take a bottle? Is there anyway I can make this happen?

I know everyone recommends a sippy cup at this age, but he doesn't like them. I don't think he will take it, and if he does, it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

My pediatrician says the only way to make it work would be to wean him off of breast cold turkey and just give him a bottle! I don't feel comfortable with that, but again don't know what to think.
I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Paris

Nak

What about a regular cup or straw/cup?

Agree that cold turkey is cruel.

It might be a matter of getting a bunch of diferent sippy types to figure out what kind he likes best.

I wouldn't push a child to a bottle if they were old enough to use a cup. That sounds like extra work for later.

we have some think baby cups, they sippy spout is soft like a nipple. They worked really well for us.

Has he ever had a bottle?

I can't speak to cold turkey or not. I can see the 'merits' that once it was over, it was over. I don't know if a 10m old would be interested.3

I'd try this route or a straw. Will he sip from an open cup that you are holding?

Thank everyone for the great info. Right now, he doesn't take any bottle or sippy cups at all. I was thinking today one reason might be that I only offer juice in bottle or sippy cups. I will pump tomorrow and try all of those with breastmilk and see if he takes it.
And thanks, I looked up thinkbaby bottle/cups. The one that was kinda in between looked nice. I'm going to get that and give it a try.

Thanks so much,
Paris
