Rock concert at 17 weeks?

Sooo. I went to an amazing rock concert last night (WEEZER!!!!!). It was an outdoor concert and I was in third row (which was AWESOME). But it did get me thinking...was it not a good idea for the baby? Like will he/she have hearing loss now? YIKES.

I did see a few other preggos there which made me feel a tad better.

Your baby just got it's first lesson in rockin' music

As long as you werent standing directly in front of the speakers (and Im talking... RIGHT there... not you know... sort of in front of them but 20 feet back) then baby is probably just fine!

That amniotic fluid helps a lot.

By about week twenty four your baby's ears are well developed. By 27-30 weeks your baby's ears are mature enought to respond to the sounds that filter through to him/her. In his/her fluid filled home, a baby's ear can't do their normal job of amplifying sounds, so even if sounds are quite loud to your, they won't be for your baby.

I used to work in the oil field and did so until 30 weeks. (It was suggested that I leave my work enviroment after 27 weeks, when the baby's ears were developed.) The noise out in the field is incredibly loud, what with all of the generators, the pipe, the drill and all of the equipment that we would use. Everything I have read/researched seems to show that as long as you can avoid prolonged exposure (8 or more hours of continuous exposure to noises louder than 85-90 decibles) than you and your baby should be fine.

And your baby still has about 10 weeks before his/her ears are developed enough to "hear" so... I hope you had a great time! No worries!

Rock on.

We went to lots of music events when I was pregnant with my last baby. You could definately tell that he was hearing/feeling the music, because he would REALLY move when the music was going, and would be still when it stopped. It was fun

FTR, his hearing is perfect (well, there is some age appropriate selective hearing loss, lol) and he really, really loves music and dancing.

We went to see Seether at an outdoor concert this summer. I've heard your internal noises (digestion, pulse, ect) on their own can get to 90 decibeles.

I can believe that!

After all, its right there to baby... and sometimes is loud enough for other people to hear through all that blood, fat and skin... completely across the room!

I wouldn't have thought twice about it (and I didn't - times 4 pregnancies).

Now, my kids do tend to start a circle pit every time DH turns his music up loud. Could be why!

Awesome! I feel much better hearing that! And the concert was AMAZING. I love Weezer *swoon*

I didn't even consider this an issue since I've always seen pregnant ladies at shows! Have tickets for shows in Sept., Oct., and mid-December when I'll be 8 months! that one will be Roger Waters - a very good early welcome for the little one.

I'd say the outdoor ones are best & I wouldn't stand right in front of speakers in a small club show. Glad to hear others never had any problems!

Meh. I was right up front for a concert in BC where Evanescence was headlining but a few other harder bands went first when I was 24 weeks with my first. She's fine. Though I'm lucky I waited a few weeks to have her... no offense but I didn't really want to get stuck in Canada to give birth to my preemie.

Your baby is fine. And probably can't hear yet. And if s/he could... they'd dance.

I play drums and had A LOT of people concerned about me playing while pregnant. I did a LOT of research and basically found that unless noise is as loud as a jet engine there is no need to worry, the sounds are much quieter to a baby in there then it is to us! I played our last show last week at 37 weeks pregnant! Boy did people get a kick out of that! We are very musical and I've gone to several concerts while pregnant, most notably I saw Rush in July it was AWESOME!

We are seeing a concert in October and our little boy will be about a month old. We have already bought a pair of headphones to protect his little ears after he's out!

Sounds like a great time! I was at a wedding reception last night and the music was very loud. The babies especially seemed to like "Brick House".

I attended TWO concerts with my son about that gestation. Doctor cleared me ahead of time that it was just fine and no harm was posed to him.
