Topical Food Allergy?

My son has a definite topical cinnamon allergy. If he eats anything with cinnamon in/on it and it doesn't get wiped off as soon as the snack is over he gets his HORRIBLE rash on his face. Like, it looks like impetigo bad (almost like blisters) It doesn't seem to bother him. When I noticed it yesterday morning I wiped his face with a cotton ball dampened with hydrogen peroxide and kept it wiped with a clean cloth all day...this morning there's a bit of redness but no rash.

Do these things usually go away or get worse? No rash anywhere else. I mean, if he gets it all over his torso or something it gets a bit of a rash, but no diaper rash or anything.

I have no idea, but I'm interested to see what other moms have to say.

The same thing happens to my DS with cinnimon and oatmeal, although not as severe (just topical redness, no blistering). We just avoid those foods.

Yeah, he does okay with oatmeal...but I put Jamaican Allspice in it last time I made it and didn't think about the cinnamon until later in the day when it was all red...

I think cinnamon is one of those foods that can cause serious irritation in sensitive skin, but it's not necessarily an allergy. Either way though, it's best to avoid it.

Is there a way to tell allergy vs sensitive skin?

For some reason, high histamine is ringing a bell on that one.
It used to happen to DD2 when she was younger. And it was a medium intolerance on her ALCAT test. We took it out for 2 years. And now she's fine with it (no "burn" marks, etc.).
