GOOD book about baby development

Hi there-
Maybe you mamas can help me out- I'm looking for a GOOD book about baby development, one that will tell me about what my LO is working on each week, how I can help him along or encourage him, what kinds of toys or things he'll be most interested in or age-appropriate games, play or activities for he and I to engage in at stage, etc. I've seen a few books about this kind of thing, but those I've seen are much too simplistic (seem to be written at a 3rd grade reading level) for my tastes.

Anyone have a recommendation???

Thanks!!!

I haven't read it myself, but have seen it come up in discussions here a number of times: The Wonder Weeks
It goes week by week for the first 55 weeks. Take a look at the Amazon reviews for more info. GL!

The Wonder Weeks is phenomenal, but it is focused on mental leaps and doesn't talk about physical growth as well. It also doesn't go by every week; it goes by major leaps, so there is a chapter for the Week 5 leap, the Week 8 leap, the Week 12 leap, and so on. I use it in conjunction with www.babycenter.com weekly growth pages.

Oh Dang. I just ordered the Wonder Weeks and I didn't realize it was only about mental leaps...

It's seriously an awesome book, though, I don't think you'll regret it! It's much easier to find physical developmetal milestones online, so it's nice to have a reference for mental stuff.

I've browsed through a few week-by-week development books, and personally I've found them pretty useless--mostly because all babies grow and learn at different speeds. DD never really seemed to fit into what was being outlined, especially when it came to sleep (she should be sleeping through at 8 weeks? really?).

I'm lurking here to see if anyone has any recommendations!

I have this book: Your Baby's First Year week by week and I like it. Like every book, it has some weird advice that I personally don't agree with but I like how it tells me what things to expect and how to play with her or what kind of play she would like at certain weeks. I think it's informative. But again, every baby is different. My baby has so far been hitting every milestone for every week that is in the book (including sleeping through the night at 8weeks...lol...actually it was 5weeks when she slept 5hours through the night). She is 11weeks now and sleeps 8hours through the night. It's the funniest thing!! I do have a friend who hated the book because it was not accurate with her baby when it came to milestones. So.....
