I'm a confirmed red wine lover, and had a glass with dinner 5+ nights a week before becoming pregnant. With my first, I researched and discussed at length with my midwife, and we decided that once in while, after the 1st tri, a glass with dinner was fine. I think I stuck to no more often than once every 2 weeks.
I agree with PP that people need to relax. My realization during my last pregnancy was that we (in the US) live in a culture that endorses people blaming others for their problems (e.g. suing McD's for serving hot coffee) and therefore are 1. a very litigious society and 2. aren't to be trusted as individuals for making our own decisions. It's safer to say "no drink during pregnancy" because, in the US, if a doc tells the wrong person that "once in a while is okay" they might very well go out, have 10 drinks a day, and sue the doc when their baby is born FAS for telling them drinking was okay. And somewhere, a jury or judge is going to sympathize with that idiot.

So I made a conscious decision to follow guidelines from France, UK, and other countries. All their warnings stated no more than 1 drink a week, with water and food, over the course of a few hours. The warnings frequently coincided with avoiding second-hand smoke, since pregnant women having a Guinness in a pub might be exposed to smoke. Which I thought was interesting, having that warning adjacent to the alcohol guidelines.
So, OP, if you are craving a G&T, I think you are okay. Just drink only ONE, WITH dinner, over the course of a few hours, with a glass of WATER. When I had a glass of wine, I would sip slowly, and if ever my tummy started to have that burn-y feeling, I would back off and have some water, and sip in another 10 mins or so. and PS, my kid is fine. The most verbal 3 year old at his preschool.
