Baby BM's: advice?

OK, so DS is 8 weeks and EBF.

No problems with nursing, milk came in fine. His BM's have always been within the range of 'normal': yellow/brownish to greenish, seedy looking, loose, etc...

However, in the last few days they have gotten noticably more mucousy and I haven't seen a yellow/yellowish brown one in almost a week. I just changed a diaper that was almost solely brownish-green mucous with very little in the way of seedy bits. At about 4weeks I eliminated all obvious dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc) because I noticed it made him a TON more gassy and uncomfortable.

Could it be a dietary issue causing this mucousy-ness? Wheat, maybe? Or do I need to get really serious with the dairy (I haven't been avoiding it in baked goods or the odd bit of butter...).

He doesn't have a fever and his behavior isn't any different, still smiley and happy as a clam.

Dr.Google says it gree mucous can be casued by a virus and can often be the only symptom of a virus. Any idea how long it would last if this is the case?
Or, He's always been pretty saliva-y, and I know a lot of 3mo start drooling like crazy, could he just be starting that pre-teething drooly period really early? could this cause mucousy poo's?

Should I be bringing him in to see someone?

I can't answer most of your questions but I know my ped says it can take 3 wks for a stomach virus to leave the system. That said, my ds1's allergic colitis started after what seemed to be a bought of stomach flu. It's all very confusing. If he's happy and doesn't seem ill at all, maybe just watch for a few days. Did you add anything new to your diet?

If it's not from a virus it could definitely be from dairy. The other thing that pops into mind would be a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. Do you have an oversupply?

Ugh....You are joining my club! I have been trying to eliminate allergens since about 2 weeks with my dd. She is 5 mos now and still has mucus. My new dr thinks we have a yeast issue. All I can say is- i am so frustrated not being able to pinpoint the cause. Sorry- I wish I could help!!!

My guess would be a hindmilk/foremilk imbalance as a pp mentionned.

My 1st son had greenish poops that became full green poops that looked like pureed, cooked spinach. After talking with a LL person I was able to sort it out and his poops returned to normal. In our situation it was too much foremilk. For me it worked to latch him on and when my letdown happened I'd pop him off and hold a cloth there to catch all the excess and then I'd latch him on again. Sometimes I'd hand express a bit before feeding him. Too much foremilk can also cause gassiness.

DS2 had muscousy poops from the get go and never had a curdy yellowish brown poop. His were all really orange or really green. Cutting dairy and gluten completely out of my diet helped with the mucous. And the green poops seemed to sort themselves out.

This.

When this happened to me, my friend (who is a lactation counsultant) told me to try nursing on one boob for a whole feeding instead of switching in the middle. Of course, alternating boobs each feeding. It really helped...the green poo went away by the next day.

If the kid is happy, let it be.
