Before Ds was born I was a huge coffee drinker, but I DRASTICALLY weaned while pregnant. I didnt have a single cup of coffee for months after he was born. But after night after night of poor sleep I succombed to my old habit again, after reading different things regarding caffeine's transfer to breastmilk. I read at first that it takes a baby 96 hrs to process caffeine in breastmilk. Yikes! Thats what kept me away from it for so long after. But then I read that the baby only gets about 1% of the caffeine. I am at about a cup a day, and I do strongish half caf (no starbucks ventis or anything!). I have an amazing high energy son who is now 6 mo and I dont think I could get through a day at this point without coffee. But he is so fussy and it seems to be getting worse. My caffeine habit has not changed in probably 2 months, but Im grasping at straws to figure out why. If the coffee is wiring the baby and I keep drinking it to survive, then its like the chicken or the egg, obviously the coffee needs to go first, but if thats not whats bugging him, I will be an exhausted wreck, still with a screaming child.
I am just looking for peoples opinions of their experiences, or if they know facts to back up whether or not caffeine has a drastic transfer through breastmilk.
