10 yr old and first menstration

Hello everyone. I have a 10 yr old daughter who just started her menstration. I am wondering if anyone else experienced this? I am nervous because she is so young. She had been developing for a while now and I figured she would have at least another year. Is there any thing I should be doing for her now? Besides the basics, I mean, we have had the talk and she understands, but I am wondering should she see her doctor? Are there any other health concerns we should be aware of? I would appreciate any info any one has. This is quite a nerve racking experience for the both of us and I just want to know what others have done throughout this. Thanks a bunch!

At 10? Nothing extra, just the same old thing that you would do with a girl who's older. Age 10 is not an unusual age for menarche at all. So just relax and maybe have some girl time with your DD.

I started at 10. I was in the fifth grade. There were several times when accidents happened or a tampon fell out of my bag or something and I got made fun of. I suggest you get her a cute little pouch or purse for her to keep her stuff in. Also, I would suggest her having a spare pair of shorts/pants/skirt in her locker or at the nurses station. I once had to wear sweatpants from gym until my mom could pick me up because I bled in my shorts. Other than that, I would try not to tell the whole family and have them come up to her and be like, "oh, i heard you started...yay!"...that was really humiliating for me. I know my mom was excited, but it was annoying to have everyone know something that was going on with my body.
