Dermographia?

I just got back from a visit with my son's primary health care provider who is referring him to allergy/immunology. He's been developing hives and has also developed dermographia (which I am just now researching).

So, anyone with more experience here? Information? Links?

We are largely devoid of supplements preferring to get nutrients through the foods we eat, but I am certainly willing to try some to see if they help.

~raises hand~

I have dermagraphism. I refer to myself as the human etch-a-sketch because I can draw on myself and stays that way for about 20 minutes. I also have idiopathic hives. I suffer from a rare disease called systemic mastocytosis. Your son may just be sensitive to his environment and you probably just have to figure out his triggers.

Is he fair skinned? It seems like a lot of fair skinned folks (like me) have demagraphism.

He is very fair- our whole family is though he is particularly pasty, and completely intolerant of sunlight.

I am finding very little information, but then, we are a family of weird immune stuff, so that's not that odd for us.

I'm wondering if it's an adrenal issue as "drawing on yourself and having the line last" is a classic self test:

Interesting! I have the drawing on myself thing, but only on days when my environmental allergies are really acting up. If I gently scratch my arm and look down minutes later and see a bright red line, I know it's going to be a bad allergy day. I haven't noticed it much since moving away from the Midwest (where my enviro allergies were REALLY bad.) I had no idea there was a name for it.

So yeah- I would bet that there are some underlying allergies (environmental and/or food) triggering both issues. Keep us posted after you see the allergist!
