I guess the title says it all-- I'm just wondering if anyone has any rave reviews for a vacuum they love. We have 'wood' laminate flooring, and ceramic tile.

oh wow! is it this one ?
It sound just wonderful, but is more than I was thinking. We have carpet upstairs, all wood or c-tile downstairs, so we still need some room in our budget for a new carpet vaccum as well.

it vaccums and steams the carpet! it comes with two attachments for one for high carpet and one for other flooring. so it mops the floors while it vaccums and it sanitizes the rugs while it vaccums. i have area rugs so i just take off all attachments since its a low rug and it works great i save so much time. DD is small and crawling everywhere so i literally just mop/vaccum/steam everyday and i know the floors are clean.
yes its that one.
over carpet and tile its really easy and lightweight. on the wood and laminate you have to use some muscle. it was/is expensive and it took me a long time to get it but our regular vaccum broke...before i would vaccum the rug, sweep the floors, and then mop...i have a bad back that NEEDS surgery but they can not operate due to the injury involving my spinal cord and aorta. basically i would have a 75% chance of death...haha not good. so to me its a really ideal tool to have i save time effort and my back doesnt kill me afterwards. my house is probably 850sq ft and it take me 15-20 mins to have the floors completely clean and sanitized. 10 mins if i just do the kitchen and living room and hall.

all i know is i spent $100 on the last vaccum i bought and lasted me 13 months...oh just over the year warranty i was PISSED lol
i bought the haan steam cleaner in the past and seriously adore it best cleaning tool i ever bought, nothing cleans my stove/oven like it. with just water! and i had the steam mop which i loved as well (gave it to my bff after i got the vac/mop) so i really trusted the company. with the handheld steam cleaner the day i got it i knew what task i needed to do. i had just bought a new mattress maybe 6 months prior and then i was raped in my home...i had blood stains on the mattress...big ones...i couldn't bare to change the sheets for fear of re-living the experience. anyways i bought the steam cleaner 6 months after so this is seriously dried set in blood that i tried everything to get it out...well i used the handheld and got the stain completely out! i was in shock. i used the upholstry cleaner attachment on it without the fabric(so i wouldnt ruin it) then i just blotted it up with a towel. seriously old gross blood came out of the mattress?!?! i was floored.
well kind of long haha anyways i do feel the mop/vac is over priced i wont lie but i do love it and i would buy it again b/c its such a timesaver and time is something i dont have with an 11 m/o lol

With that combo of floor coverings, you would do best combinig your budgets and getting a good canister vac w a powered floor attachment (for carpet). I love my Riccar, and i was astounded at how beautifully a canister vac cleaned my carpet, but the attachment has to be powered. The Miele is the other one i looked at w a powered head, both are excellent. I chose the Riccar because of the details (materials, warranty, etc). You have to find a local dealer for the Riccar though, you wont find them online. They have a full range, from a couple hundred to over a thousand $.

it looks like everyone on this thread has an 11 month old! lol! I guess this is the age for eating crap up off the floor.

It's tough, because we are replacing my hubbies 60 dollar eureka. The thing still 'works' after 7 years. We just end up having to vacuum the same spot 3-4 times.

After I was moaning all weekend about not knowing what to get (there were a few tears, I admit) DH just ran out and bought a dyson dc14. I'm still unsure, though because for the price, you can get a really nice bissel, etc. The 240 we spent on it is the very tippy top of our budget for a vacuum-- I actually woke up in the middle of the night worrying about it. lol!

Ive never used a Dyson, but my understanding is that a standard upright vacuum is not suitable for hard floor coverings. The beater bar which is what you need for carpeting will just scatter detritus on a hard floor. You either need a vac that you can turn off the beater bar, or a canister. Hopefully you can turn it off on the Dyson.
