Breakfast ideas?

I know that this has been beaten to death, but... I need help! DS1 (12 years) is attending school for the first time this year (been hs'ed up till now). He has become incredibly picky (I know some of this is related to his sensory issues, but seriously? I can't deal with it!), and has decided that he is only going to eat cereal (ONE kind) for breakfast. I need some ideas, mamas. I need something that is fairly quick and easy on school mornings, preferably something he can do for himself. Anyway, I am just at a loss here. He used to eat eggs, but says he doesn't like them anymore, which stinks, because eggs are such a quick breakfast. Anyone have ideas? thanks!

I have an 11year old and going through the same thing, extremely picky! But as we know breakfast is very important, sometimes I have to make him eat.

Some quick and easy things you could have on hand for him are fruit, get a variety of the ones he likes, it's quick and easy. I make my son turkey bacon in the microwave, done in 2mins 15 secs. You have toaster waffles, PB and J, oatmeal, if he likes any of those things. I also get the cheese sticks as a good source of calcium.

With the PB and J, I just make sure to get natural PB by JIF and I try to go with fruit spread for the jelly so it's not as much sugar.

Then it's just about getting creative with them, so one day it may be bacon + a piece of fruit, the next day it may be fruit, with cheese stick and glass of OJ.

These were a few off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are plenty more than what I gave you, hope it helps.

I get sick of eggs for breakfast sometimes too. I usually end up switching to eating leftovers for breakfast and sometimes cereal ( I am not 100% TF and I refuse to give up grains) I don't do the sugar cereal though because I don't like it. If he can cook, then he should be able to reheat fine.

Smoothies? They can be very simple with frozen fruit (I freeze banana's in chunks- I usually do banana/berries), yogurt or kefir and milk/water. You can add things like egg yolks, protein powder, chia seeds, bee pollen but if you keep it simple it would be something he could make himself. Spouted bagels and cream cheese, grilled cheese, homemade bars/muffins with fruit and milk on the side.

was going to say smoothies too. You could make them taste like dessert

Also what about puffed cakes of an egg base with veggies and cream blended in, or even breakfast souffles with a cream/cheese sauce. Just thinking of deliciousness I like to eat! Maybe have a date with him and take him to a super fancy breakfast buffet at a swanky place (if in the budget that is) and see what new stuff he tries and likes.

Ok, he won't eat anything resembling a quiche. He will drink smoothies, maybe I can convince him to have that for breakfast. He does like bacon, and I think *maybe* that with some fruit would go over well. Not sure if he would eat leftovers, maybe pizza? idk. I'm trying to think that through; I can't see him eating soup, chili, spaghetti, rice, etc. in the morning. He might eat a quesadilla... Gah! He told me yesterday that he doesn't like breakfast tacos anymore!

I think the bagel and cream cheese idea is good, he would probably eat that. I think he *might* eat a homemade bar-type thing.

Thank you! I am going to try out some of these ideas, and see how far they go.

Well if he likes bacon but doesn't want eggs a bacon sandwich is yummy

two ideas.... I remember when i was a kid my favorite breakfast was french toast.

You can use an ezekiel or spelt sourdough piece of bread for the toast... use omega 3 range free eggs and some kefir or whole milk or cream for the batter... grassfed butter to oil the pan and saute it then top it with maple syrupe grade b. I would consider that pretty healthy......

Another thing I liked was Cream of wheat. Not exactly that healthy but not bad either. Just make sure not to use too much sweetener and to use generous butter

have you sat down to read some recipes with him? he might be interested in certain flavors and you can find things that the whole family enjoys.

we do a muesli parfait, eggs/etc, breakfast sandwiches (eggs, etc in sandwich form) black sweet rice (coconut cream, black rice, honey), etc.

Ds (12) used to be a picky breakfast eater but ate well otherwise, so I started giving him left over dinner in the morning and it worked out well.
Now he is better and likes your more typical breakfast foods like eggs but gets sick of them every day.
He actually started eating hummus for breakfast recently. Sometimes he will have yogurt that has been drained in a cheese cloth, I don't know what you call it, and in the Middle East it is called laban. It is very tasty on good bread.
Another idea you could make him pancakes, where the batter has soaked all night in butter milk or kefir. I add hemp seeds for more protein.
DS also likes fruit soothies with kefir but they are not enough.

Black sweet rice sound really good! Tell me more - do you cook it in coconut milk? Or, do you add coconut cream and honey after it's cooked in water?
