Conversation's with a toddler

Today's top favorite was between my 2 year old daughter, Lucy and my 11 year old sister, Cali. Scene is the backseat of my mom's car while on our way to lunch. Cali is playing on her ipod touch and my mom and I are talking in the front seat.

Lucy: "Are you sad, Cali? Don't be sad Cali."

Cali: "I'm not sad, Lucy."

Lucy: "Cali, why are you crying?"

Cali: "I'm not crying Lucy and I'm not sad."

Lucy *short pause and in a very serious tone*: "Cali... Are you poopy?"

Cali: "NO! I'm not poopy!"

Me & My mom doing our best to hold back our laughter: "Lucy, Cali is a big girl. She goes poopy in the toilet."

Lucy: "Ok."

I've had a rough past couple of days and this was such a highlight to my day. I love these toddler moments. Feel free to share some of your favorites.

Oh and edited to say... Lucy turned two in July. :-) She's using more and more sentences daily and holding short mini conversations all the time. Some times you can't understand exactly what she is saying but for the most part you can always get the gist of it. I think by 3 she wont ever shut up. LOL! Is this the norm or is it a little advanced? I'm just wondering since I tend to be around other kids who are a month or two younger and not talking as much as she is... Of course they are boys too so maybe its a girl thing. LOL! Since she was born we've never been big on baby talk and when she started saying her first words my partner and I have always given her a sentence. For instance if she said "MILK!" we would immediately say "Lucy, would you like some milk? You need to ask nicely for it and say 'Mommy I would like some milk please'" Then we would ask her to repeat the sentence as best she could... in the beginning it was just "Milk and please" Now she will say the full sentence. Anyways I just wonder if this is part of why she is able to communicate so well now.

Right now she is going through a phase where she asks "What's that?" or "What's this" to everything she doesn't know the word to or things she's unsure of. Then she repeats the word and moves on to another object or person. She's a sponge right now! I love it! The only time it sucks is when I slip up and she hears me say "F...!"... then I'm following her around saying "Mommy said FROG! FROG LUCY!" HAHAHAHA

Awesome!

As the mother of a 2.5 year old who only says a couple hundred words and rarely more than one together, I keep reminding myself: there is a wide range of normal. I know of a couple of toddlers who were like that at that age. My son won't be there for a while. Glad you're having so much fun! I'm looking forward to it!

It is just wonderful when they can start to express what is going on inside there head so...eloquently. for a toddler, anyway.

DD is a hoot and a half. I love love love conversing with her. She was a very early converser.

Today, DH took DD to the park before I woke up . When they got back she informed me that they did not bring me donuts.

Mommy, we did not get you donuts today. I'm sorry. Maybe, I can wake up tomorrow and go get you donuts? Maybe, when I wake up from my nap I can go get you donuts. Mommy, are you sad I didn't get you donuts? I'm sorry. My dad told me I was having a bad day.

I love how she says 'my dad' now. That is brand new.

Apparently, she was not having a good morning, and DH had to make an executive decision in the parking lot of the donut place to not even bother. DH then felt the need to make her feel guilty on the way home.

Sometimes, he forgets how sensitive she really is.

Plus, the whole reason she was in a bad mood was because he did not let her get in her car seat all by herself. He has been away. I really need to brief him better on our daughter.

ETA: love the name Jude.

LOVE IT!

DH is working at a resort and we DD(2) and I pick him up each day. We park in the back by the staff area while we wait. The other day it was smelly-they have some sort of pumping issue. Anyhow it smell like sewage.

We pulled up and dd said "ewwwwwwww, mama smelly poop! Clean it up."

I DIED laughing. She is just getting good with sentences and this one was perfectly clear and so funny.
