Roadschooling

Anyone else doing this? or contemplating it? My DH and I have this idea- well, I did one night surfing the web, I discovered a group of homeschooling families who take it on the road- minivan/motorhome, etc for months up to years and it sounded really cool. I brought the idea up one time with my dh, and he now fantasizes (like me) about it! We wonder how we could afford it, what would all the logistics be, etc. I would love not to have a mortgage any more, no more property taxes, no boring humdrum daily routine, but an adventure exploring the country and the amount of knowledge we all would gain would be totally awesome! Man, it sounds like sooooo much fun!!
I think we are being led down this path...somehow.
I would love to hear from others who have done it, thought about it, or are getting ready to do it!

thanks!

I think about this a lot... It's my dream! If we could swing it financially at some point, I'd do it in a heartbeat! I think it'd be the best experience ever!

Are you familiar with the Family on Bikes? They've been biking from Alaska to the Southern tip of South America for the last 2 years. They're going to be featured on Good Morning America on Monday.

Their website has a lot of information about how they do what they do, including the financial aspect.

We are "on the road". Our family has been on a round the world trip since February - our blog is at www.wherearewoo.wordpress.com We are traveling with our 2 boys aged 6 and 10 and daughter aged 2. It has been an awesome learning experience!

Someday I would love to do this. I am already planning it. I would love to do at least two long-term trips of 6 months-1 year: one around the US and one around the world. We wouldn't sell up or anything, and DH would probably have to stay here and work so it would just be me and the kids.

I check in on the Happy Janssens. Pretty sure I came across them because the gal was on MDC here long ago. They're fun, and that kind of adventure looks amazing. If you're more on the free spirit spectrum - I'm one of those boring put-roots-down-and-rarely-leave kind of folks.

Our dream is to "boatschool", I guess! We want to live on a boat eventually. If it happens while some of our children are still young, I'd be schooling them while sailing who knows where.

We don't have any romantic notions about it though, we both grew up on and off boats, and DH is a merchant mariner. It would be hard but fun.
