How many of each?

I'm not new to cd'ing, but it has been a while. I'm starting to make lists of things I'll need for this baby and I need a bit of a refresher. I'm wondering about my plan and people's suggestions.

I'm due in March, if I make it full term (my last two were preemies) and it will still be cool here through April, but not freezing. It doesn't snow where I live and temps generally don't get below the 40's during the day.

I thought at first I'd stick with prefolds until the baby is a little more mobile, so maybe the first 4 months until he/she starts rolling over, maybe the first 6 or so until he/she crawls. Is 24 preemie size and 24 infant size enough? How many covers? I thought wool for night, and I've already knitted a few soakers to get started.

After that, since I knit, I'd like to buy a few fitteds for showing off my soakers, but the summer here is extremely hot, generally we have almost the whole summer over 90 and frequently into the 100's. I'm trying to figure out what would be the coolest option. Is wool really breathable enough to be cool even in those temps?

I loved Fuzzi Bunz with my last one (she is almost 6 now) so I thought a pocket system of some sort would be the bulk of my stash once the baby is 6+ months. If the one size ones work well enough and aren't too fussy, would 24 be enough? Maybe with 6-10 fitteds and a few soakers as well?

TLDR: Planning my stash as 24 preemie prefolds, 24 infant prefolds (How many covers?) 24 one size pocket diapers, 6-10 fitteds, a few wool covers Is this okay?

I would say that you will need at least 3 doz. of the prefolds since EBF especially but FF as well sometimes can go upwards of 15 dipes per day so with 24 you would do laundry every 36 hrs. other than that your plan sounds good to me!!

I'd go with 6 to 8 covers. You don't have to change your cover every time you change the diaper, but if there is poop on the cover, you'll want a fresh one. You may have a few blowouts until you perfect your fold and fit for this baby, but worst case you can always hand wash a cover in the sink to get you through till the next wash.

Congratulations on your baby on the way!

you should be fine with your wool in the hot temps. Think about it...in the civil war in 90-100 temps they wore wool in battle.
Wool is amazing and your best choice if you have the option of introducing it into our stash.
Plus showing off your handiwork will be a bonus!

Good Luck!
