Six-Year-Old Bedwetting

Hello All: My six-year-old son still wets the bed heavily. This is something I thought he would've outgrown by now...I've gotten mixed comments from practitioners when I've asked. We've tried waking him up before we go to bed and walking him to the toilet and he goes, but this doesn't seem to improve the issue.

Any insights?

Thanks so much...

My 6 year old still has to wear Goodnights to bed because he wakes heavily. His doctor said it's still within the range of normal, especially for boys. He said by 7 or 8 most boys grow out of it. He also said it was genetic...sure enough, DH was a bed wetter until he was 7 or 8 as well. There's nothing really you can do, short of medication (which I don't recommend doing because it's a dehydrating medication)...when he has night control, he'll stop wetting...it's really just up to his body to mature a little more.

My son, who will be 10 in January, just stopped using goodnights about the beginning of June. He still wets occasionally. I think for some kids it just takes longer. I think it's just somethings moms and dads don't really talk openly about so it feels like you're the only one. Hang in there!

My DD stopped wetting the bed within a few days of removing the foods she was intolerant of, for us gluten and dairy.

We've also had some success with limiting fluids after 6pm (8pm bedtime) for our 8 year old. From my understanding, up until about 8 it's within the range of normal to bedwet, as long as there are no daytime accidents.

for many like me its a hormonal thing. the right hormone is not ready yet to feel the urge at night esp. that's why the medicine docs give is a synthetic version of the hormone. i wet the bed till i was 12 or 13 at night of course. there are quite a few of us who did that.

or it could be a food allergy.
