Prefolds as liners in pockets

My pockets and baby shape are having issues but Ive solved it by using prefolds as liners (not an insert but on top of the suede cloth). However my baby girl is only a month old and the pocket with pre fold is REALLY bulky. Can I cut some prefolds in half? Currently I fold both sides over the middle and then fold that in half so that there's six layers of pre fold under baby. It seems excessive. What can I do to trim these down?

We did this for a while for similar reasons. I always folded the long sides into the middle and then folded down the top 1/3rd. Then put the folded part at the front of the diaper. I feel like that would be less bulky than doubling up the entire prefold.

We used birdseye 3 ply in a pocket cover. We just bought one 12 pack and used them for the first 8 weeks. They worked great in Thirsties covers and in the BG pockets. I had to wash a lot , but they were way less bulky.

I investigated my local options today and discovered gerber 3 ply birds eye organic diapers! Softer, natural, and half the bulk of my 6 ply prefolds! Think I may actually be able to cloth diaper after all!
