Progesterone Question

Hi - We are currently TTC. My last three of four pregnancies ended in miscarriage so I'm trying to be very cautious this time. I've been doing BBT's which seem relatively low to me indicating thyroid problems but I'm already on thyroid meds (since June of this year) and my blood work is looking significantly better there. Anyway, I've had low progesterone in my last several pregnancies so have been on supplements after I get a positive test. I'm wondering if anyone has experience taking the progesterone BEFORE the positive test. I know I ovulated (positive OPK's and temperature rise). Will progesterone bring on my period? I definately don't want to do that. I thought I could be all breezy about this and not stress out but I'm clearly not doing that, LOL.

Any experience would be helpful. Thank you!!!!

I also have a progesterone deficiency that led to a very short LP so for this pregnancy I spent 4 months taking progesterone starting 3 days after ovulation. The first month I took Prometrium vaginally, the second Crinone gel vaginally and then the last two I was back to Prometrium, but orally. I am still taking the progesterone now and will continue to for the rest of my pregnancy.

My first month TTC my period didn't start for 40+ days so my doctor prescribed Provera (which is also progesterone) to make it start.

So I believe progesterone can be used in two different ways depending on the dosage and what else it is mixed with. Provera will bring on a period but Prometrium and Crinone will keep it from coming.

Does that make sense?

Yes! That makes total sense to me. Thank you. I have prometrium. 200 mg. I'm going to take it orally until I can get ahold of my OB (Tuesday). I have researched it ALOT so I feel it's the right thing to do at this point. Thank you so much!!

there's actually controversy about starting progesterone AFTER a bfp. a lot of research questions it's effectiveness, for whatever reason, it seems to work much better if you take it as soon as possible (within 3 days) of o.

re: your temps- dont get thrown by that either if your bloodwork looks decent- i just got a new bbt therm and it is a full half degree lower than my old one. i can take my temp with both of them at the same time or back to back, and the new one is always about 0.5 degrees lower, so dont worry too much about the actual number that it reads, at least some of that is a reflection of your thermometer!
