cloth wipes causing rash & redness?

I really want to be able to use cloth wipes on my DD, but every time I try she seems to end up with redness or rash. I am using Fuzzibunz wipes which are a very thin fleece on one side and are so soft. I have tried a homemade wipe solution of a few drops of castille soap & lavender or tea tree. It also happens when I wet them with just plain water.

I am not sure what else to do or try. She has no problem with regular disposable wipes, so I just keep falling back on that, but I really want to make the cloth work. Has anyone has this experience or can offer any tips?

Thanks!

This seems to happen to my kids sometimes too... I have found it happens the least when I use plain water so thats what I do.

Does she have any sensitivity to fleece in her diapers? Some kids do have sensitivity to fleece in general. You might try a cotton washcloth and see if it still happens.

Good luck! :

Yes, she may be sensitive to the fleece. Or, also, I think fleece is supposed to be harder to rinse clean than other fabrics in the wash. I always use a bit of vinegar in the rinse cycle b/c of this.

She wears pocket diapers with either fleece or suedecloth insides so I kind of suspect it is not the fleece, but I will definitely try cotton just to rule that out. Flannel wipes just seem so rough to me.

Another thought I had after doing a bit more reading on homemade wipe solution is that maybe I should be adding olive oil or baby oil or something to make the wipes glide a little better.... but will this mess up my diapers if the wipes containing oil is washed along with my dipes?

If it were me.
I would ditch the fleece - removing the synthetics and replacing with a natural fiber such as cotton or hemp may immediately resolve the issues.

I also would get rid of the EO solutions. I personally do not feel TTO is great to be up against the genitals. It is highly overused in the USA and much more than other countries.

Water or Water and a natural soap would be a positive change imo.

Actually, I agree with this. TTO is sooo strong; I only use it (ONE drop heavily diluted) if there is a yeast rash.

I use those rough cheap thin baby washcloths with plain water and I end by blow-drying her which seems to have cleared up the only rash she has ever had. And she loves the blow-drying! I hope I'm not creating some weird fetish

I use homemade flannel wipes with just plain water. One dry wipe to dry her. No rashes sofar.
