my name is Teresa and what i like about my name is that i RARELY meet anyone with my name. i think i've known 2 (3 max) other Teresas in my life time. there are only a few things that annoy me about it-i have to say "Teresa-no H" when telling a clerk my name as they're typing it and people don't pronounce it properly. it's not Tree-sa. it is Ter-e-sa!!!! otherwise, it's pretty and original 
as for the pronunciation of Therese, depends where you are, i guess? french speakers will pronounce it differently than non-french speakers (or other languages.)
no matter how you spell it though, other people will have a hard time figuring out how to spell it. i've seen some doozies in my day...
a friend of mine calls me Reece, by the way, so you could do that too as a variant. also, i have always loved Tessa.
