2 day period?

My body is boggling me at the moment. I thought I knew it so well and it is becoming apparent that I might not know it as well as I think I do!

Background: I'm 34 and used to AF visiting me for about seven days. A typical period for years has been heavy flow and terrible cramping for the first three days, then the flow gradually getting lighter until it is gone. I've been on and off BC because the cramps were nearly debilitating. But I hate meds and so after a year or so of being on something, I'd take a break until my cycle got back to its usual painful self.

I was on the Nuva ring until December 09 and haven't been on anything else since. So far, my periods have been manageable and have gotten shorter. Since May, my norm has been: a day of med-heavy flow followed by a day or two of lighter flow, then spotting. Five days max. Never less than four.

Now to the present:

AF was due on the 31st. I'm rarely more than a day off... I think the last time I was more than a day late was around ten years ago. I'd been experiencing sore breasts, headaches, fatigue, and random bouts of nausea & dizziness. I tested and got a negative. AF still hadn't shown up by Friday, the 3rd, but my symptoms suddenly stopped. Then I started cramping and started bleeding in the afternoon. It seemed like a normal period... starting with med-heavy flow, terrible (but not debilitating) cramps. Yesterday, my flow was really light... and I've not had a drop since yesterday afternoon. Nothing.

Has this ever happened to anyone? I'm hoping it is just stress and will sort itself out. I'm just not used to my cycle deviating so much from what I'm used to.

I would test again. With my DD I had implantation bleeding that lasted several days and fooled me into thinking AF had arrived. But then it stopped suddenly without getting into really heavy flow. I still didn't think I was pregnant but took one last test, just in case (I didn't want to be one of those women showing up in the ER with stomach pain that turns out to be labour!). And surprise!

I also had a couple of BFNs before the bleeding started. So if you haven't tested since the 31st, definitely test again.

I had a similar thing happen to me a few months ago. AF was late, and then she came, for three days, of spotting - I never had any heavy flow that cycle, which is abnormal for me. It was barely enough to justify using a tampon. I had hoped maybe it meant I was pregnant, but, no such luck - tested negative again the next month, and I had my period as normal on my next cycle. In my case, I suspect it was a stress issue that caused it.

If you chart, is your temperature still high from last month? Its possible it could be implantation bleeding, but it could be just a weird month. Take a test and see.

I've occasionally had a month like that and it always made me wonder, but I've never tested positive after it happened.

Could still be pregnancy - I would test again. but it could also be an annovulatory cycle which can sometimes be lighter. Or you will start spotting or more AF in the next day or 2. Sometimes I get a days repreive and then she comes back just to make me wreck a decent pair of underwear! LOL
good luck!

I last tested on the 2nd... I've decided that I'm not going to test again, unless my body does anything else strange in the near future. I've got one test left and I've made a goal to not use it until I'm late. At this point, I'm 99% sure that I'm not pregnant... I'm just more boggled and concerned that my body isn't behaving the way I expect it to. If it turns out that I am pregnant, confirmation will come on its own and waiting longer won't hurt.

I have decided to start charting though. After this last cycle being a bit wonky, I figure that charting might keep me more grounded/sane!

TickleToes -- I totally don't want to scare you but you may want to also give your gyno a call. Changes in what's normal for you may indicate that something else is going on. Have you had your yearly pelvic/pap recently?
