I woke up in the morning feeling completely normal after days of off and on contractions. Feeling like I would be pregnant forever.
I took a nap with my 2 year old DD and after laying down for about 45 minutes, I had to get up to go to the bathroom. My water broke on my way to the bathroom. I laid back down and started feeling some contractions, but they were completely manageable, not even anything I needed to breath through. I came out and told DH that my water broke and started keeping track of my contractions. They were still manageable at about 5pm. At 5:30 they started feeling pretty uncomfortable, so I got in the birth tub with DD. She was jumping around me and splashing and having a great time. I was having to concentrate through the contractions within minutes. After about 15 minutes I really wanted out and decided to sit on the toilet (much more comfortable for me with both births). At around 6, I asked DH to call the midwife to come over. I was starting to breath heavily through the contractions and feeling uncomfortable. I was feeling a bit shaky by the end of the contraction, but still felt I was in early labor. Midwife arrived at 6:30 and I was vocalizing through the contractions. This was the point in which I was saying 'I don't want to do this anymore'. Midwife listened to the baby and I was questioning how far along I was. I ran back to sit down for the next contraction. Second midwife arrived at 7pm. At this point I started hearing myself push through my contractions. I still was unsure about my dilation. I heard a bunch of commotion of the midwives getting things ready and I told DH that I was pushing through my contractions. The midwives were quite aware that we were getting close. I reached down to feel and I could feel a bit of her head. I couldn't stop pushing though. Midwife came in and said I should move to the bed if I wanted Matthew to deliver the baby. I somehow made it to the bed and laid down. Midwife asked if I wanted MIL and Mom and DD in the room. I just kept saying no (I meant, I don't want to think about this right now....) luckily, DH said yes and they all came in. I pushed 2 more times and her head was out. Midwife told DH how to get the shoulder out and in one more push, out came Hannah Clare. I had a small tear above my vagina, but they had to stitch me up since it was through an artery and the bleeding would not stop. I thought she looked so much smaller than DD and guessed she weighed right around 8 lbs.... I was wrong. She was 9 lbs, 12 oz and 21 inches long. The entire labor was about 5 hours, but really active labor for less than 3. It was such an incredible experience and I would not change it. I loved having her at home.
