Six month old babes!!! March 2010

Thread Starter
Hey all, don't know if we have a thread or anything, but I just wanted to celebrate these little babes, and how fast they are changing.

Samuel is 6 months, well was on the 4th, and he is the happiest little guy ever.
He has 2 teeth, ( my other 2 didn't get teeth until 10 months ) has learnt how to give kisses, with an open wet mouth and he grabs your hair and pulls you onto him! He is learning how to crawl, but not too interested in learning how to sit up.
He eats some fruits, avocado, pears, plums, and some oats and nurses like crazy.
Oh, and he loves our black and white cats too!
Last night he slept in his crib for the first time, and only woke once at 1am for a nurse.
We are working on getting in some good day time naps too.

What are your little ones doing?

Hi mamas!

Evie did really well at her first week in daycare, and honestly, mommy did well in her first week back to work. But, students are coming tomorrow (last week was all meetings and professional development), so it's another ballgame! Plus, my "baby" starts kindergarten on Wednesday!

She'll be 6 months next week, and we introduced avocado as her first food a couple of days ago. I'm concerned about my milk supply, so I like having some sort of caloric thing as a backup that's not formula. She loved it! I mashed it up with a fork and mixed in some breastmilk and she downed it and begged for more, so I had to make another little batch! I'm going to give the avocado another couple of days and then maybe do steamed apple, since it's not as sweet and starchy as banana.

Hi, everyone!

Johnathon is doing great!! He also has two teeth and I think he's gearing up for more very soon--he's doing the droolling/chewing on everything routine again.

He can sit up by himself, but still isn't rolling over consistently. He has rolled from front to back and from back to front a couple of times, but really is content either on his back or on his tummy. Anyone else's just not all that interested in rolling?

Other than that, we are getting the night sleep sorted out--last night, he slept from 8-3, then until 7:30. It was heaven!!! I feel so amazing after a good night's sleep! Especially since he hasn't been sleeping well the last couple of nights (again, we think it's teething).

He loves avocado and sweet potatoes (individually, not together). He likes bananas, but not as much as the other two. He also loves giving kisses--big, open mouth, tongue out, sloppy kisses with his arms around my neck. And I love them so, so much.

I just can't believe he'll be six months already.

Hey everyone!

It is so hard to believe Samuel's almost 6 months. Where has the time gone?

We're doing great. Samuel's a fun little boy. He's sitting up, and almost crawling. He gets up on his hands and knees but can't quite figure out what to do then. He scooches with his belly on the ground...we just got a carpet for the living room so now he has some nice floor space to play.

We've started solids a little. We want to do more baby led solids, but not hard core. S's grasp isn't very precise, so he gets frustrated easily...we'll probably wait a few weeks until we do solids more regularly. He's really liked all the tastes he's had so far...mainly fruits like plum, watermelon, pear, banana...and then butter (kind of random).

His sleep is still hit or miss at night...but overall it's better than it was a month ago.

As a family we're getting used to a new normal...DH is at work a lot, but it's very flexible, and I'm at home with Samuel. We do campus ministry, so our summer was pretty low key...but now things are in full swing. I love being at home with Samuel..but getting a rhythm to our days is taking some time.

Hi all, I haven't been posting in the previous March 2010 threads, but figured I'd start. Anyway, dd is 6 months +1 week (March 1). She has no teeth still, but I think one will cut through any time now as she's been chomping on everything for a long time, it's getting worse and I can kind of feel one under her gums. She is almost crawling, rocking on her hands and knees, doing a sort of inchwormy scootch. Dh says she crawled across the bed once, but I have yet to see her do it. She's been rolling tons since like 3.5 mo. She sits on her own for quite a while if we put her in a sitting position (either pulled or placed) but doesn't sit up on her own yet. Same with standing; we can pull her to a stand and she'll hold herself up on our hands or if we lean her against her leapfrog activity table, even letting go with one hand sometimes, but she won't quite pull to stand using furniture or anything yet. Does this count as pulling up? Babbling a little. Getting better about a regular sleep schedule although it's not ideal. She's a night owl like me and being a SAHM I've just been going with it. If I roll her schedule back too much she wakes me up too early and I don't function so well if I'm too tired. We're about to start solids, literally it's on the agenda for tomorrow morning. She seems to be developing separation and stranger anxiety as well, which makes me a little overwhelmed by how much she needs me. Sometimes she seems to be giving kisses and i just taught her to high-five. Super cute! She's getting to be a lot more fun, although I definitely feel like I don't entertain her enough sometimes and am trying to strike a balance between her and my usually conflicting entertainment needs (for me screen time, punk/hc/metal shows, etc).

Hey Mama's!
DD has got a little over a week until she's 6 months. Wowzer! 1 yr will be here in no time.

Here's what's up with us;
-2 teeth...or 1 1/2. One broke through and the other started a few days after so, she's got a snaggly tooth smile in the front
-Gnawing on things, eating tiny bits here and there. So far we've tried banana, peach, nectarine, apple, red pepper, grapes, watermelon and she had her 1st green smoothie last week(spinach, cherries, coconut water).
-Sitting up and rocking in the crawl stance. She's rolls and scoots to get to what she wants.
-Lot's of talking, laughing, screeching and making dadada sounds. I love the sound of her voice.
-We've been doing some EC. I finally got her a potty of her own(instead of holding her over our toilet). She goes right when she wakes in the am and sometimes after eating and whenever else I or DH thinks about it. She loves sitting there and laughs the whole time.
-We are still having daycare woes. I hope it's worked out soon. I aksed the powers that be if she can come to work with me twice per week for 1 1/2hrs. That would solve our problem. Please pray that it works out for us.

I just love my lo so much and enjoy being around her. I look forward to the future milestones and fun!

Hi! I would like to join in too. I also have not been in the ddc but my baby tuns 6 months in a little over a week. WOW!

He is great.
He is:
-Rolling over from back to front all the time. Almost every time I put him on his back he goes on to his front.
-Babbles and sings all the time! ( not all the time- just an expression!) I sing to him all day long so I really think he is singing back
-Starting to try to move himself forward.
-chewing on everything, and touching things a lot.
-he has had some solid foods- applesauce, a pureed plum, some really thinly cooked pureed squash, some really thin pureed oats (once), and maybe something else. He still nurses all the time.
one thing is he has not pooped in 4 days! I am calling his pediatrician tomorrow morning to ask about this if he doesn't poop tonight I know it must be due to the intro of solids but I only have fed him solids once in a while so far.
Doing well other than that. (added edit- he pooped soon after this post )

Maya will be 6 months in 2 weeks. She is currently really into arching her back and scooting backwards, every time we put her down on her back. She can't get up on all fours yet, but she's really trying, so every time we put her on her stomach she gets her legs under her and starts sliding forward on her face. She's not babbling yet, but she SCREECHES very loudly, and it can mean she's happy, sad, bored, or anything else. She just likes to make that noise and you have to guess what it means by the look on her face. Honestly, the screeching is so loud and high pitched, that it can get very annoying. We definitely can't take her to a nice restaurant right now, since she does it all day. lol She has had serious stranger anxiety for over 2 months now, so no one but us can hold her or she FREAKS out. I let her have some banana the other day and she loved it, but I'm going to hold off on doing more solids until she's a little older. She really, really wants them, but I just don't think her body's quite ready yet. She can sit unassisted until she wants to reach for something or gets excited. Life is good.

Hi and welcome Snapdragon!
DD transitioned to pooping multiple times per day to a couple times per day every 2-3 days.
It's a bit strange after dealing with poops all the time, but that's her norm now.
Glad your LO pooped finally

Laura turned 6 months last weekend and I am (mostly) loving motherhood!

I think she may be a little behind on some of the mobility "milestones" as she doesn't roll much or scoot, but she sits on her own and loves to stand holding onto my hands.

I introduced banana to her a few days ago, and she seemed to like it, but we're taking the solids thing pretty slowly.

She still is a poor sleeper. Every once in a while she'll sleep for a solid stretch of 4 or 5 hours, but more often she's waking every 1-2 hrs. Its hard, and some days I feel so weary, but I'm trying to be patient with it and I remind myself that poor sleep is a much better problem to have then one of the serious illnesses that other families face...

So far she seems to have a pretty calm and content personality, and I just love her smiles and laughs!

My first post to a March babies thread!

DS was 6 months last week. He was really mobility focused all along -- rolled early, was up on all fours and rocking by 4.5 months, also creeping. He's been crawling properly now for three-four weeks. Been able to sit when we sat him up for quite a while, but only started getting himself to a sitting position after he started crawling.

The new thing this week is pulling to a stand, which he can do quite well, but then he lets go to crow about it and falls over. Not every time, but every time that he just pulled up to pull up -- if he was going after something, he forgets to crow and then he can stay up for a while.

He just started babbling this week also, and he won't stop. He mixes in lots of burbling with the babbling, so a typical string goes something like: "abababababa blurble-spit-spit-blurble abluabluabluabluablu burbleburble bababab." Plummeting -- I remember the screeching! It was constant for a few days and then he forgot about it altogether for a couple of weeks (the same weeks he was figuring out how to crawl, sit up, and pull up -- coincidence?). Now he went back to working on vocalisation and he does it once in a while but not nearly as much as before.

DS used to be a great sleeper, but since he can move, he now has better things to do and we almost have to manhandle him to sleep --he just keeps getting up to play as soon as his tummy is satisfied.

We started solids a lot earlier than with our other children, just because he seemed really ready was clearly not satisfied with milk. By five months he could sit up without support for several minutes at a time and he had a pincer grasp. A friend's son fed him a few cheerios and he ate them, which showed us he had no tongue thrust reflex. I held off for at least a week after I was sure he needed solids because everyone keeps saying 6 months, but it just wasn't fair to him. His first meal was a full half an avocado (mostly self-fed -- I held the pieces in my hand for him to grab out of my palm because they were sticking to his tray). Now he can eat a whole banana or chicken thigh at a sitting and still clamor for more. And he's drinking basically the same amount of milk! (At least when I'm at work, which is also when he gets most of his solids.)

we're coming up on 7 months over here. i think this month has flown by faster than any of them. it's been a much rougher month than the others too. tzippy is TEETHING. and by that i mean in serious pain for a couple days at a time, no sleeping, no smiles, just grumpy and screechy. then it calms down for a while and then it comes back. and still no teeth!! i'm going to lose my mind if these buggers don't come through soon.

she's also really sitting well by herself just in the last few days. she could do it before, but she's actually motivated to do it now and can actually lunge for something and correct her balance. when we're not having teething pain, she is such delightful company! i love how every day she communicates with me more and more.

we're having fun with solids. not much really gets swallowed, but she LOOOOVES the tastes. we do a combo of self and spoon-fed foods. she loves pieces of melon and nectarine, but she's also gone wild for a spicy lentil curry, homemade vegetable soup, and sweet potato with cinnamon and coconut milk. we don't do bland baby foods... she has turned up her nose at just about every plain veggie i've tried (and is really offended by applesauce!).

I would love to post about how great Evelyn is doing .... but all I can think of is my horrendous first postpartum period that I'm having right now!! Oh my gosh this STINKS! Back pain, heavy bleeding, headaches, cramping, bloating, zero energy.. I can't wait to get this over with and hopefully the next period won't be as bad!

Anyone else had a bad first PP period??

Hi everyone! I have never posted in the March 2010 before, so I figured Id jump on in.

Ada will be 6 months next Monday. She is sitting up by herself for about 30 seconds. She can stand up holding on to a chair or my knees. She can roll over and over enough to get across a room, but no crawling (or really trying) yet. She cant seem to get her upper body and her butt up at the same time.

Shes still pretty much just breastfeeding. Im offering solids 3-4 times a week, but mainly she plays with them until she is ready to get out of the highchair. Really, she likes to chew on the spoon. Shes tasted a ton of stuff, but the thing she has loved the best was sweetpotato, parsnip, and pear mixed together. DH gave her some lemon shake up while we were at the state fair, and she lunged for the cup for about 20 minutes afterwards. I was amazed at her attention span to remember that the cup had something yummy in it.

She will sleep anywhere from 4-8 hours without nursing, totally depending on her daytime nap schedule. We are co sleeping, but she has slept in her Pack N Play bassinet about 5 times. Its pretty much on its last 2 pounds, because its sagging in the middle.

Ada will mimic me when I bang on her highchair tray. It seems like she is also trying to mimic handclapping, but Im not sure. She says dadadadada, gaga, baba, and gadagadagada all the time. She loves to talk.

Im still waiting for kisses and mamama.

So Samuel is six months tomorrow.

I'm just celebrating...the first 8 or 10 weeks of breastfeeding was so hard. So I made little goals, and then really wanted to get to 6 months. We made it! Nursing him is such a joy now, no pain. He's big enough that I can curl up with him on my lap on the couch (or wherever) and not mess with pillows to get a good position. He's not as distractible as he was even a few weeks ago. He play little games with me while he nurses, looks into my eyes, smiles...it's so sweet. He's such a blessing.

Yay for sweet babies! Congrats on 6 months, March mamas!

What is your six month old's weight and height?

DS had his six month doctor check up today. Doctor said he looks great and everything is good.
Only thing is that he is 27 inches tall (59th percentile ) and only weighs 15 pounds. I guess at his 4 month appointment he was 26 inches and weighed 14 lbs and 7 oz so he didn't gain much at all these past 2 months.

I was really surprised to hear that, because usually when I tell people he is six months old they say he looks big.
At any rate- I almost felt like the nurse got the weight worng but probably not. I am gonna weight him tomorrow just by holding him and stepping on the scale and subtracting my weight.

I have just started feeding him solids but I have been a little less organized with it than I had hoped. I think I am going to give him some baby cereal- I will try it in small amounts, but he may just need the bulk. I will just add that into the routine of fruits and veggies. I guess the good thing is that now I know it is okay to offer him even more solids than I have been. He still mostly just has breastmilk but I think he needs more solids too. anyway I was surprised to see he was in the 5th percentile cause while he is sort of tall and skinny for a baby, he is not really skinny- he doens't look skinny to me.

I just did a quick google search on what different people's 6 months old weigh- and for being 27 inches, 15 lbs wasn't so far off. I am surprised that goes as only 5th percentile.
added in- I just entered my ds's weight and birthdate into a chart and it came up as almost 14th percentile.

I have no idea. She has'nt been back to the doc since 2 months. We were waiting until we found a more holistic one who is in line with our no vaxing.
We're taking her in this Monday. I'm kind of excited to see how much she has grown. DH keeps estimating her weight to be way more than I think, so we shall see.
I don't know about the whole percentile thing either, so I'm no help there.

Hello all!

Baby G is doing awesome. He is desperate to move around, and is nearly crawling already! He can definitely get around no problem.

We took him for a check-up on Monday, and he is 28" and 18.8 lbs, which is right at the 50th percentile. He's had a few fruits, and really seems to prefer squash above all else.

He is still a ridiculously happy and content baby, and quite cuddly, like my other boys were.

I can't believe he's six months old. Here he is!
