Six month old babes!!! March 2010 - Page 2

Musashi turned 6 months on the 10th. He crawls ALL over the place. He crawls up on stuff, like the green block and then stands at the bookshelf. He crawls to vovo and tries to climb up her leg, he pat pats his cousin's shoulder when he carries him around, he mimics chewing when he is hungry or he is watching you eat. He just starting trying to let go of things when he is standing. He balances for a few seconds at a time. We are getting ready to move and this morning he put his sandal in a box and then patted the box. haha.

He also started eating baby food. He eats pears, raspberries, rice cereal, butternut squash (his FAVORITE), okinawa potatoes and sometimes the baby food with some beef or chicken.

Musashi is 27" and 20.5 lbs.

Hi! Nora is so so so cute. She is like a little porcelain doll. Her sleep is ok- I am surviving. I felt insane with deprivation around this time with my boys so she is much better. Her weight gain is still not amazing- but I am a small person too and my mom said I was a small baby. She is just 13lbs 12 oz as of last week. Still struggling with poop/gut issues. I have a new doc who is so awesomely not mainstream! She wants me to do a Body Ecology type diet to hopefully heal both of our guts. It is really hard and I am sometimes really bummed. I just want a beer and a slice of pizza every once in a while! LOL! Anyway- all your pics are adorable- I will write more later when I have more time!

Eleanor will be six months on the 30th. She is sitting very well; figured out how to stick one leg behind her today, and then she gets frustrated because its back there. She has been on all fours rocking back and forth for almost 2 weeks now, but she can't seem to figure out how to get anywhere. She started babbling this week, which is just precious. She looks right at me and babbles away like she is sharing something very important. I love it!

I think we are finally a breastfeeding success. It has not been an easy road, by any means. However, we've made it this far, and as testimony to all that work, Eleanor definitely is attached to her milk. She hasn't started any solids, isn't really interested in the whole food thing (which is fine with me, lol), and is perfectly content with a spoon.

She cut her first two teeth on her 5 month birthday. We went to bed on Sunday night with no teeth, and Monday morning, there were two poking through the gum. My older kids were so excited they could hardly contain themselves. They still fight over whose turn it is to hold her. DS2 (he's 3) hollered at me one morning when I took DD away from him "HEY!! That's MY baby! Bring back my baby!", which totally cracked me up.

wow, I feel like it has been so long since I've been on here.
We have been in moving craziness but things are finally settling down.

Ruben was 6 months old last Saturday. He isn't crawling yet but sits like a champ. Sometimes he finds himself on all fours and starts laughing like he can't believe he did it. Then he falls over but he's getting more graceful and purposeful with the falls.
He's eaten
adzuki beans
acorn squash
potato
pears
squash soup
kanji
nut bread
goat cheese
peach chutney
applesauce

Pretty much a little of everything we've eaten that hasn't been too spicy over the past week or so.

We're starting to pull out the winter clothes and so far I've made him 2 sets of wool pants from old sweater arms. I need to work on some wool lined leather booties next and a hat.

Here's my boy

Oh, and bathtime has become so much fun. There is always water everywhere and he freakin loves it.

ciga How has your baby eaten some of those things that aren't pureed? does he have teeth?

I am trying to figure out foods to feed my baby. The successes so far are
squash, applesauce, pureed fruits, and "baby cereal".

I bought some jarred foods but I didn't like them and ds didn't like them so I am back to making my own stuff. For some reason I am having a challenge figuring out what to feed the baby!
He has no teeth so everything has to be pureed consistency. I want to avoid bananas and avos (and other tropical fruits) for now.
What else can I feed him? I keep wanting to make soups and puree them but I haven't gotten to it.
I know the baby cereal is kind of binding- his poop this morning seemed challenging to get out and quite solid, and I think the cereal may be constipating a bit. But I like the idea of him having some grains. I tried pureeing carrots a few times but they are so grainy. I tried oatmeal but it felt too chunky! what other veggies or foods are good for starting solids?

No teeth yet so I just fork mush everything that is more solid. I make sure everything is in small enough bits that he can't choke (like fruity chunks in the chutney). He did poop out the casings of the adzuki beans so next time I'll have to actually puree them. The nut bread he only got very tiny pieces of with no actual nuts involved. Even though the kanji was a pretty darn mushy consistency my husband did puree it for good measure. try cooking the oatmeal overnight in a crock pot with too much water and you might end up with something that is broken down enough not to cause worry.
We made a batch of kanji so I've been mixing it with mushed pear and/or mushed roasted squash. It seems to be a hit. Tonight I'm making a vegetable soup and I'll just fork mush a bit of it for him. He doesn't seem to need it to be totally homogenous.

I can't deal with the jarred food either. I almost bought some the other day when we were traveling but the color of it turned me off.

Hi, mamas! I've been out of the loop!

Both babies are crawling now and both got two teeth with 24 hours of each other; it was really weird. I can't believe our babies are six months old already! Anyone thinking of having more?

Snapdragon, none of my babies have liked purees. They've pretty much held off on solids until they could put it in their mouth themselves. Obviously, not all babies are like that. However, I have found that most foods that are fairly soft are fine. They don't have to be pureed, just soft enough that if baby doesn't have the teeth to do anything more to it, they don't choke on it. For example, bits of soft peaches or pears, well-cooked chicken, or soft sweet potatoes. Little bits, not big chunks. They figure out how to gum food pretty quickly, and so far, we've not had any problems with choking or gagging. I think the key is to let the baby decide what and how much goes in their mouth, not the parent forcing it in, kwim.

I think Eleanor is about to cut some more teeth. The last few nights have been rather rough, and she's gumming everything in sight. She woke up at 4:00 a couple of night's ago, and wanted to play. She wanted to practice her crawling skills, which was quickly vetoed by both me and DH. E finally went back to sleep around 5:00. I also think she's growing, since she suddenly wants to nurse all.the.time. She isn't really interested in food, just more nursing, which is fine. I'm just glad we finally seem to be over the hump in that area.

Hello Ladies!

Whew, time flies eh? Waits will be 7 months next week. No teeth yet but they're coming any time now. He's learned how to crawl and can't be contained, haha. He loves to get around! He's also started pulling himself up into the standing position, which he thinks is a riot but which I have to keep an eye on. A few days ago he fell straight back and bonked his head. It was his first real 'injury' and he handled it well. I was a mess and spent most of the day Googling concussions and signs of traumatic brain injury. ha!

Attachment parenting is harder than I expected, but I am so in love with this little man and oh my god, baby laughter is the greatest sound I've ever heard. Waits is super smiley guy and loves peek-a-boo and tickles.

We've tried avocado-breastmilk-mash (milkamole) and soon will try sweet potato, but I'm not pushing the solids. He's not super into it so there's no rush.

We're babyproofing the house. I'm afraid he'll be walking soon!

Hi all!

This is my first real post here on MDC. I have a six 1/2 month old DS named Jake. He is quite a sweet little boy and things are going well. He is about 20 pounds and 28.25 inches long as of his last appointment. We are doing a primarily baby led solids approach but I have been giving him some foods lately. I tried a whole milk yogurt which he seemed to do okay with. He has a hard time grasping the food so I have been using a mesh feeder with slippery foods like banana and avocado. But to be honest he is just not all that interested in food. He will tolerate it for about 20 minutes before he just wants out of the high chair. He is actually MUCH more interested in his sippy cup of water. He tries so hard to get that thing to his mouth and he is beginning to succeed.
He seems to be a bit behind with his milestones. He STILL has not rolled back to front, and rarely rolls front to back. He can sit but not by himself for long periods. He loves to stand and jump while holding your hands. He does babble and squeal often. He also went from sleeping from around 7pm to about 7am to waking often at night and only wanting to sleep with us (we co-sleep with an Arms Reach). So we have been a bedsharing family for the past two weeks. I am positive that this poor sleeping is because he has teeth coming through. I can see one in the front and my nurse mother said she felt one on top too. So I am waiting anxiously for them to break through. Because I work full time as a teacher and am finishing up graduate school so the sleepless nights are difficult to say that least.

Hey, ladies! Maya is now fully mobile, although in an unconventional sort of way. She hasn't figured out the real cross crawl motion, but she's fast. She does a combination of army crawling, hands and feet crawling, and hands and knees. It looks very awkward and hilarious, but that baby can MOVE...quickly. lol Tonight she got herself up from a crawling position to a sitting position - that was the first time for that. She pulled up for the first time a few days ago. She crawled over to her bouncy seat, then pulled up on it. The next day she crawled over to a basket and pulled up, but then she cried because it wasn't tall enough for her to stand straight, so she was just stuck there with her butt out behind her and she didn't know how to get down.

She's started on solids and has one tooth that just popped through the other day. It came with much pain and suffering, so I'm dreading the next several months of teething. Hopefully they won't all be as bad as this one was. She loves the dog and her big sister. She's still a pretty good sleeper, although she's also still hard to get down. She is not babbling yet, so of course I'm anxiously awaiting that. She has said 'mama' a few times (as in making noise, not purposely saying 'mama', of course) but really that's the only repeat consonant sound she's made. Otherwise, she laughs, yells, screeches and screams a lot, with the occasional, goo, ba, or something like that thrown in. I guess she's been too busy working on getting mobile to worry about babbling, so hopefully soon...because I'm a worrier and will commence worrying if she's not really babbling within the next 5 or 6 weeks. I can't help it.

She's 26 inches and I'm not sure of her weight. She was just in for a check up and they said 16lbs and something, but I'm not sure their scale was accurate. They also measured her length wrong - they got it a full 3 inches shorter than she actually is!!! That's a HUGE difference. Now obviously there's not that kind of room for human error on a digital scale, but I think their scale is a little off. I'm going to take her to a home store of some sort and weigh myself with and without her on all the expensive, fancy scales. lol
