Stuffy nose for 7 wk old

My daughter seems to have trouble breathing. It is mostly at night, although sometimes during the day. When she nurses, I can hear her breathing heavily, and I am sometimes able to remove boogers from her nose (sorry, prob TMI), although she doesn't have free flowing mucus. It looks like a sinus infection to me. For my toddler, I would use saline, but what about a newborn?? Anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Breastmilk. Right up her nose. Yep!

You can try steam, too. Take her into the bathroom, close the door and run a very hot shower. That will help loosen the mucous so you can get it with the sucker bulb more easily.

i used saline on charlie when he was tiny - i'm just no good at hand expressing/squirting bm...

besides just having boogers, what makes you think it's an infection?

Wen DD caught a cold at about 3 months, we used saline plus a contraption called "Mouche Bébé" (or Baby Nose Blower). It's a little hose that you insert at the edge of baby's nostril and suck to remove all the mucous. It has a filter so the gross factor is kept to a minimum.

ETA: Can you use a Neti Pot for a little one? I know they're recommended over antibiotics for sinus infections, but I don't know the minimum age to use them.

Sometimes teething can make them have boogers and be noisy breathers. (mine started with the drool around that age). All the extra saliva pools in the back of the throat and they rumble when they breathe. Boogers can also be dried up breastmilk that got in her nose. I wouldn't worry too much unless she gets really stuffed up.
