HELP! 11.5 month old is biting at every breastfeeding session!!

What do I do?? This can't go on!

Mums: Adelaide has started biting me (hard & on purpose) at most feedings. I try not to react, but it's hard not to since it hurts like the bejeezus. I put the boob away immediately each time, which she really doesn't like, but she still continues to do it.

She laughs or smirks each time, which is why I think it's for a reaction, so I'm trying my best to be neutral, but it's really really hard. When it takes me by surprise I shriek before I can stop myself. It really really hurts.

I was not planning to wean her yet. What do I do???

I always heard what you should do when they bite is instead of pulling away, pull them in closer so that the boob kind of squishes their nose and they can't breathe. Supposedly a time or two of that and they will get the message. I could never remember to do that, though, it's such a natural reaction to pull away. Mine only did it a couple of times, I screamed so loud she started to cry and hasn't done it any more (knock wood).

I had to do this a few times with DD and also had to remember not to make any noises or reactions, its really hard, but it does work IMO. She didn't like to be squished and definitely didn't like the boobies to be put away. She did love any reaction from me though so I tried to keep an even face while I put her down and put my nursing bra back on and told her "no biting". Give it a try its worth it and just remember they're looking for that reaction Good luck!
