Netflix streaming only - Page 2

Ohh and the cost too I always wondered if there were like cheaper rates for such a service out there.

Do you have to purchase something special to hook the Wii up to the computer in the 1st place? We're stuck at that. We have the streaming dvd....

You need a wireless network. You buy a router for the computer that has high speed internet access.

For those of you considering Netflix, you can usually get a free trial, often of one month. Google netflix free trial.

When the Wii streaming first became available we signed up for the 8.99 streaming package. We had some initial problems with connections that were really annoying. We added security to our wireless router and things instantly improved. Somebody had been piggybacking our connection.

You might want to give Netflix customer service a call. I'm thinking about ditching the satellite, but I have the lowest speed DSL. They said you need a speed of at least 1.5 something-or-others but they recommend 3 something-or-others to do streaming.

Bumping this up...I got an email from Netflix saying they now have a streaming only option for $7.99/month (plus tax). They are increasing the price for the streaming plus 1 DVD at a time from $8.99 to $9.99/mo plus tax starting January 2. I think we'll switch, we hardly ever watch the DVD we get in the mail.

If I were you, since you enjoy streaming Netflix only, to think of investing in Blu-ray player that has Netflix streaming capabilities..I have a PS3 and it has netlix, blu ray, and games.

tradd i would first do a month trial to give you enough time to figure out what kind of a watcher you are and what you like watching.

i love documentaries and foreign films. for me it makes sense to get the streaming with 3 movies (think its $20) because my choice becomes VERY LIMITED if i try to stick to mostly streaming. if i just stick to streaming i dont like how technology or netflix affects what i actually view.

i have known that earlier you have to do the one DVD option but that you never had to actually order the one dvd.

and personally i still think $10 bucks is too much for a limited variety (i dont watch many tv shows, which reduces my choices even more).

I just switched from three at a time dvds to streaming only.  I was loving the DVD's until about april, then got sick of sending them back, so I stopped.  I had three discs on my dresser ready to ship back since april.  So when they sent me that email, it was a no-brainer.  The Wii is awesome, you don't need the streaming disc anymore, just download netflix from the wii shop channel (it's free), and it just comes up on the wii menu.

I use a Roku and I love it! Much cheaper than a Wii, Xbox or Bluray player. I got mine for $40 ($20 off coupon when I joined Netflix at the same time). You can google and find the offer. I also have the slowest DSL connection availible. I have not run into any buffering issues from Netflix. I love my Roku!

Another crit of streaming videos, for me anyway, is we love to watch British movies and sometimes their accent is so thick that it would be nice to be able to put on the subtitles but Netflix doesn't have that option.  Mostly, we are happy with it though and the price is sure right.

I just inserted the netflix dvd into the wii. I googled how to set it up and did the step-by-step instructions given. It was easy! We don't have wireless so I tap into the neighbors unsecure wirless connection or use linksys.
