Where can I find nice towels cheaply?

Thread Starter
I just posted this in Homebirth and then did the forehead smack. I should have posted it here! I know someone here has my answer!

I know there has to be someplace that I'm just not thinking of. Maybe Kohl's? I want towels, not organic or anything but that feel nice. I don't have a lot of "clean up" at my homebirths, since I waterbirth. I just need to soak up a lot of water. My towel collection has been dwindling/unraveling anyway, so I'm in need of some new ones. But I can't afford $10-20 PER TOWEL!

So, where is the discount store at which to buy nice fluffy towels that I'm not thinking of? (I don't have a Ross or IKEA, btw).

I've already tried a wanted ad on freecycle, also, and hit thrift stores with no luck (their towels are in worse shape than mine).

TIA

Kohls, TJMAXX, Marshalls, Target, Walmart even has some decent towels

Kohl's!!!!!!

I love the Laura Ashley ones, my mother prefers the Vera Wang brand.

The regular price is good but on sale they are super cheap.

I like them more than my Ralph Lauren ones which were about triple the price. They are holding up quite well and stay much softer than the more expensive ones I have.

I bought lovely towels for our homebirth from JC Penney's. I waited until they were half price...Linden Street is the brand name. They are thinner, but absorb wonderfully and dry in half the time as a regular towel. THey were $5 on sale.

Also, if you are photographing the birth-buy darker towels. The pics will turn out better with the contrast (birth photographer here).

Target....

I think it is the target brand, not sure. We got fluffy white towels for 4.99 and they are really absorbent. Love em!

I bought towels for my HB at the thrift store. I got a big assorted bag of really nice towels - some were bleached or frayed edges, but they were in very good condition. I washed them in hot with bleach and dryed them on hot just for peace of mind.

When we were throwing them around just to sop up water, I was so glad I didn't go specifically buy towels. Even $5/each seems expensive when you need to have 10 of them.

I second Kohl's, Marshall's or TJ Maxx!!

Do you have a Marc's nearby? They have a big "close out" department. I know Marc's is an Ohio chain, but they may have one in Michigan. They have some decent towels there, on occasion.

What about a Big Lots?

Since you are concerned about absorbency just a shout out to not use fabic softener as it coats the fibers and reduces absorbency.

I don't know, the towels will last for 5 years easy, so when you break it down like that, it isnt too bad. That is how I talk myself into stuff It would be worth it to check the thrift stores, but the one near me has the thinnest towels, blech.

I am in the process of replacing all my towels. The towels I got from Target have lasted for almost 11 years now. They are all stained and being turned into cleanup/emergency towels. I do buy some $5 and some $10 ones, but these are our bathroom towels.

I really want the leopard ones from Pottery Barn, but my ultimate towel purchase would be from Restoration Hardware, but I need to win the lotto for that

Our JCPenney brand towels have lasted really well for 8 years.

Neiman Marcus! I know, I know, not a cheap store. But my dh got us a beautiful set of Ralph Lauren towels there that were on clearance cheaper than I could get a set of decent towels at like Kohls or Marshalls. And the price included monogramming! Not sure why, but they go on clearance regularly. We've gotten sets for our siblings for wedding gifts over the years. They hold up well and wash beautifully. I know this is totally gross, but at my last homebirth someone accidently grabbed the stack of Ralph Lauren towels instead of my old set and every trace of the mess washed out and they looked like new (they were a light beige too!) Definately worth checking out!
