Pockets leave me wanting

more flats, that is!

Before I had ds, I did all manner of diaper research and decided that the OS BGs were just the ticket.

Since they wouldn't fit til he was a little bigger, we bought a newborn stash of prefolds and flats with covers. One Flip cover and a few proraps.

So we ended up with 18 mixed pockets stash of Happy Heinys and BG 3.0's and about 2doz pfs and flats.

I am so irritated with the pockets! They seem to leak no matter how much I stuff them (and yeah, they "fit"), plus stuffing them is a pain, the poo stains don't come out as easy, and after only a few weeks, some of the aplix is coming off the hh's!

He has grown out of the nb prefolds, but we are using them as a doubler in the flats.

I friggin love the flats and so does dh! Part of the reason I wanted the pockets was to make cd easier for him. He prefers the flats padfolded in a flip cover and asked me to get more of them so that we don't have to resort to the pockets. They wash out great and are versatile in that you can fold them tons of different ways using a snappi or not.

Aww, mama, I feel your pain! Stuffing my BGs is annoying to say the least.

About the leaking- could your diapers be repelling? Take a diaper (clean and dry ) and drip a little water on it. If it rolls off and doesn't absorb immediately, that's likely your issue. Try the same with your inserts.

Today I had forgotten to wash diapers :P so I resorted to folding a receiving blanket around her with a hemp doubler and snappi-ing it. I loved it and told my Dh about it... he laughed at me and told me that that's how it's been done for ages (flats, not blankets, lol)

We can't use flats and prefolds with DS, as he gets rashy if he's at all wet, so they're out. And I'm so sad about it! I much prefer them. I do actually lover our HH sized diapers - they fit DS really well, but stuffing pockets drives me nuts.

I cut a bunch of ~12x5 rectangles of fleece to use as liners inside our prefolds & flats, as we have the same rash-if-wet issue.

I second repelling- I have a few of everything (except for flats) for CDing and my BGs are easy and so absorbant but very temperamental! I stupidly put one of those essential oil sticks in my drier ball last week and now my BGs leak... but I realized I've done that before and they've managed to repair with my regular wash routine on their own.

Can you try using the flats with a BG as a cover instead of stuffing them?

I will check about repelling.

Sometimes I do put a flat in, but then why use bg's?

And I must try these fleece liners I keep hearing about.

Yes, they are repelling!

1. Why?

2. How do I repair this?

Help a CD newbie out! I do like the pockets for night-time dipes 'coz the pads are so absorbent. I would like to get them back to a state where I can use them.

Any advice, mommas?

My little one cried every time she was wet so I cut up a fleece blanket (on the advice on many mamas here) and now she's great! I just lay a liner inside the prefold and she doesn't complain at all and pre-fleece liner should we SCREAM every time she was wet. Totally recommend the fleece liner!

I have some of those fleece liners (and some suedecloth that I cut out of my failed BG1.0s) but they don't cover the sides of the diaper, and even that is enough to set him off. Sigh. I was totally pumped about using flats and prefolds this time, and as it turns out, I can only use them occasionally.

I am currently stripping my whole stash using hard rock (we have hard water) by rockin green. I am too lazy to scrub with dawn or go out and buy it for that matter. I screwed up my BG 3.0 by using an essential oil stick in a dryer ball. Anyways, it seems to be working but there are a million ways to strip and if one doesn't work try another!

I put a load through a cold wash with about 1/2 c baking soda.
then I did a hot water soak(by pausing the machine) with 3tbsp rockin green over night, as they recommend on the bag. I let the cycle then complete (an extra long one)
then I did a hot water wash over night with 1/2 the rockin green.
then a hot water wash with no detergent.
my whole stash that has been treated seems to have a new lease on life, lost the musties and even look better (there's no sun here lately to get the stains out) but I will have to wait till later to see if the BGs are done repelling.
