rolling over and tummy time

my LO still hates tummy time. she just looks so uncomfortable when she on her stomach. sometimes she spits up, but mostly she just ends up face down into floor/mattress/play mat wailing. i've tried giving her toys, lying with her, talking, singing... nothing makes her happy. as a result, i'm worried that she's not getting the back/neck exercise she needs and will be slow rolling over (because i couldn't get her happy on her tummy).

her head is super steady (has been since 2 months) and she's just started being pretty happy alone on her back. she's 4 months next week.

any suggestions?

My son HATED tummy time, so I just sat him upright or carried him upright, since birth, which was his prefered position, anyways, so technically, he never had tummy time, and he hit all his milestones at the right age or a little before. The only thing he didn't really do was crawl, but I think that was more personality than lack of tummy time- he only walked a week before he learned how to run. lol My pediatrician used to harrass me about that all the time when he was really little, though- are you giving him tummy time, are you giving him tummy time, are you giving him tummy time?

I actually made a thread similar to this on another board a couple of months ago when my daughter was 3-ish months, and I was barraged with answers from mamas who said that they had kids who never rolled over and hit all their other milestones with zero problems. Cecilia was like yours, hating tummy time with a passion. So I began to count everything that helped her build trunk strength-- wearing her, standing her upright and holding her hips so she had to steady her torso, laying her on her tummy on me-- as tummy time. And now at 5 months she can roll over both ways and is doing just fine.

I tried a few times to do tummy time but my son absolutely hated it. We completely gave up on the idea very early on; instead, i just held him all the time because he hated being put down. Nevertheless he's been hitting all this milestones at textbook times.
