Until v. recently, DH has been the SAHP with our kids. I have been around a fair amount, and worked some from home as well as out of the home, but DH was the parent 'on' during the day.
Now I am home 24/7 alone with them. DH is away and we won't be with him for several months and I am absolutely taken aback at the way DH had been doing things, and I feel like I have a lot of work to do to 'fix' the way he has been doing things.
Simple things like housework- he waited for the kids to sleep before he did things. If they didn't sleep, he gated them in another room so he could work without their getting into things. It drove me nuts, but as he pointed out, he was home with them and I wasn't.
Now I am here with them and trying to accomplish daily routines is hard because they have not been incorporated into it all and they don't have a feel for the everyday rhythm of life and running a household. They are learning, but it's a steep learning curve!
Oops- nevermind, I found the routines post just bnelow this...
Now I just need to remember that this will get a little easier as I get the kids used to the idea that they can be part of doing tasks around the house and I don't plan to sit on mu bum or sequester them away to keep them out of things.
