I'm sick (& newly pregnant), DD's sick, supply sucks- help?

Vivi is a week shy of 9 months old, and we just found out that I'm about 4 weeks pregnant!

She cut 2 teeth yesterday and her top 2 are on the brink of cutting, AND we're both sick. We're heading to the ped's this afternoon- she has an armpit fever of 101 (lower with Motrin), a wicked runny nose, and super hoarse little voice/cough. We thought it was due to teething, but clearly it's not just that. (She slept, and I kid you not, 5 hours out of 24 from 12a Sunday to midnight last night. My poor, poor girl.) I ALSO have a head cold as of this morning.

The issue? She is barely nursing. I've had OAL/oversupply since she was born, but have no engorgement and can't pump more than 2-3 oz today, even though she barely nursed this am, and went 10+ hrs last night without nursing. This is the first day in 9 months where I couldn't get 8-12oz in under 10 minutes.

I'm hydrated and forced down a big bowl of slow oatmeal- PLEASE tell me this is because I'm sick, and not because I'm pregnant. DH and I researched donor milk and formula yesterday, and it makes me so sad to think of having to go to formula (though we knew it was a real risk when TTC with such a young nursling. I've researched ways to boost supply while pregnant, but it really worries me to get off to such a bad start so early.

Thanks so much.

She has likely slowed down because she is sick but I do think it would be worth giving LLL a call. Do you have a local group?

I would put money on both of you being sick. Pregnancy might impact your supply, but with everything else going on now, I certainly don't think it's a magic response to the BFP just yet. (And Congratulations!!! )

Are you exclusively pumping? Otherwise, I can't imagine why you would need nor want 8-12oz in 10 min if your pumping on top of nursing full-time. This could also be a case of your body finally regulating to meet need, though even still I wouldn't draw any conclusions until you're both feeling better.

My opinion? Snuggle in bed as much as possible with little Vivi, and hold out 2-3 days before worrying about supply too much. Chances are, the together time and rest may increase nursing opportunities or at the very least help you both feel better sooner so that you can get back on track. I hope you feel better soon!
