Have you ever fallen off the (CD) wagon?

Until this week we have exclusively ussed CD's since DD was born.

Long story short, we spent 54 hours in the hospital for a head injury this week and they wouldnt allow us to use cloth because they were weighing each diaper. They provided us with Pampers Dry Max, and she wore 2 of those before my parents arrived with a huge pack of Huggies naturals. Apparently, they only sold the Huggies in a pack of 72 as they were at WalMart and it was 3am.

Anyway, we used them in the hospital, and when we got home all of our diapers had to be washed 3-4 times, because some of them had almost 1 week old poo on them because I had been gone for longer than we had anticipated.

That was a week ago, and I'm still using the disposables. I have a cold and so does DD (which Im sure came from the hospital). I just cant find the motovation to use my cloth. We are still on the same pack of diapers, and I def. wont buy another one, but why cant I just donate these, and go back to my cloth!? I love love love my cloth, but I just want to be lazy.

Anyone else ever started using disposables and had a hard time wanting to go back?

No.

I have had a 3 month old hospitalized with RSV. The hospital wanted us to weigh diapers and I did so. I refused to allow disposables use. My children are also allergic to disposables so they truly aren't an option for us.

I did try a disposable on my eldest, twice. The first time she got a rash. The second time was on an airline flight and all of the skin on her rear end fell off (these were the uber friendly sposies). Obviously, I do not have the typical disposable wearing child and/or children.

Why not use the sposies till they run out? I'm not sure I know of any places that take opened packages of sposies.

Yup. I go through spurts of sposies more than I should. I usually have a pack on hand for occasional overnights and depending on what we're doing, out and about. But, when I do have them, I do use them. Which is why I try not to buy super big packs.

I find it kind of refreshing to use sposies for a bit and then return to cloth. Kind of like recharging my batteries or something. It's nice to not have to do a load of cloth for a few days or come home and not have a bag of dirty diapers to tend to.

I am sorry to hear of the hospitalization due to a head injury. Hope all is well now.

No here too! DS's skin doesn't dig it!

I tried corn disposables, (link on bottom) when DS was 3 months old and not tolerating cloth being wet more for 20 minutes. I didn't feel right about it at the time but was at whits end. Didn't last long.

I ended up taking the non-used diapers to our local food bank. Most food banks accept donations that are open (open bag) at their front door, we leave it outside. Someone will use them for sure. We do the same with veggies from our garden.

These are compostable, however, can't add to your garden, not completely organic due to the chemicals used for absorption. That ultimately was our deciding factor to not using disposables no matter how "natural" any brand claims to be.

I let the sitter and my husband use disposables, so a few times I have just finished off a pack for the fun of it... I just like having something slightly different to do in the whole baby-care routine, I guess. But I always come back to the cloth!

This is true for me too. Sometimes I like to see how different an outfit looks without a huge cloth diaper butt. Or if something cute is getting too small, a sposie will me me dress it on her still.

Yes. I used cloth with my first three, I don't plan on using cloth this time, for a variety of reasons.

I didn't know it was a wagon.

I tend to do whatever works for me/my baby at any given time. DS2 is in cloth most of the time, but we always have disposables on hand. Sometimes we use them at night, sometimes for specific outfits that won't fit w/cloth, but mainly we use them because of diaper rash. Every so often he will get a diaper rash while from his CDS, (whether it be need of stripping them, etc) so I'll put him in sposies w/diaper cream until it clears up. I also put him in sposies on the rare occassions I am battling with stinks/stripping our CDs. Of course, he isn't allergic to sposies, so that helps.

It sounds like you and your DD have been through some tough stuff lately. If I were you I'd happily use the sposies if it meant one less thing on your plate. Once things get back to normal, you'll be able to get back into the swing of CD. If you are like me, if nothing else, you'll miss how cute they are and will eventually get tired of looking at the non-attractive sposies.

Definitely, I'm with MamieCole on this one, I use whatever works for us at that particular time.

My boys both got more diaper rashes with cloth. I use cloth most of the time, but when they get a rash I use sposies. We also go away fairly often and I don't use cloth away from home.

I went from cloth to disposables when I was going through my divorce. We were always staying at someone else's house and it was so exhausting. My girls at the time were near toilet training age so they stayed in sposies until they didn't need diapers anymore. However, they did use cloth still at nights when we could but now they have outgrown them and so they are in pullups again at night.
I'm due again in November and am hoping to only do cloth

I kept DD in sposies while an infection on her labia cleared up. I was afraid to go back to cloth even though I was pretty sure it was a new diaper liner I used that caused the rash that caused the infection. But go back to cloth I did and I've even gotten DH to put her in cloth instead of sposies!

I told him that I wasn't buying anymore sposies, so he'd just have to use what I put out for him or buy more Luvs.

Several times.

When we moved back to Canada from Costa Rica we were to live out of two suitcases for two months - no way I was taking up a pile of that space with diapers - plus we were living in different locations for that time period & washing just would have become so complicated.

Anytime ds has gotten a bad rash we use disposables for a day or so, so that I can slather on the cream without worries.

Every so often when I just get too rundown or overwelmed by life we use disposables for a little bit.

Yup. I think I've fallen off for good.

I CDed #2 from 10 mos-PLing, but I got lazy about the sposies towards the end. I had a complete newborn stash ready to go for #3, then had a very unexpected and very emergent c-section. I couldn't keep up with the regular household laundry, let alone CDs, so we did sposies for the first several weeks. When I finally did get around to trying CDs on her, she screamed every time she wet the diaper. So we switched to sposies for good and I sold off my stash. If we have a 4th, I don't think I'll even attempt it.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Sort of. I use them for rashes... every few weeks, if things are starting to get a little red, I like to really coat things w/zinc oxide ointment.

I also use them on vacation. Not interested in dealing with poo laundry when I'm supposed to be relaxing.

No, kind of - I can't stand sposies during the day, but I use them at night about half the time. At the moment we only have couple of diapers that work at night, and if they're in the wash, then we use sposies. Or if he looks rashy.

Quite frankly, with the month you've been having, I'd use whatever is easiest for you at this point. And I'm SO glad that your little girl is home!!!
