Is this normal??

I am 18w 3d and yesterday I had a bit of a weird incident. I woke up feeling a bit dizzy and slightly anxious- if that makes sense. I ate breakfast but couldn't shake the feeling. It was like I was tired, but wasn't. So I decided to lay down for a while. After about 20 minutes it felt like I was going to throw up so I got out of bed. Then the entire room started spinning. My vision had black spots and my hearing started to go away and I felt really hot. I fell to the ground but didn't actually faint. DH caught me and helped me up. He started taking me downstairs to the car, but at the bottom of the stairs I just stood there holding the walls for a few minutes and the spinning stopped enough for me to sit down.

I sat for about 20 minutes while we called the nurse. She didn't seem to concerned about it, but maybe I didn't explain myself well. I was still pretty out of it. It doesn't seem like a normal experience to me, but this is my first pregnancy. I was hoping some of you ladies might be able to share similar experiences or at least thoughts about this. Thanks for your help!

And, the dizziness stayed most of the day. I couldn't shake the foggy feeling either. Today, I feel better- but a little foggy.

Sounds like low blood pressure to me. Try taking floradix (the stuff with yeast tastes much better...mix it with grape juice.), and make sure you take your prenatal.

Also, plenty of water and rest. Eat regularly to avoid stressing your body during the digestion process. Don't let yourself get overheated, outside, in the shower, etc.

Anyway...yeah, all that sort of stuff happened to me, too. In fact, after ds was born was the worst. I was exhausted, but couldn't sleep. I was dizzy, and felt so anxious, foggy and confused. I'd have horrible hot flashes, funny stuff with my ears, etc. I would lie on the bed and watch the ceiling go round and round. Blech. It was awful. During my last pg my heart would race all the time, and my pulse would regularly be 110-120, resting. This pg, it was happening again, and I added floaters in my eyes. So many floaters some days it's hard to see.

And then I learned about the symptoms of low blood pressure. I'm cured! I can mess myself up and have a rotten day, but if I stay on top of things, I feel good. No (or very minimal) symptoms.

HTH!

It could also be low blood sugar. For whatever reason, I get low blood sugar when pregnant and it can make me very dizzy and kind of in a fog, and I just don't feel well.
I'll drink water and eat something like a peanut and butter and fluff sandwich or something (yea, yea, I know but it works).

I don't have low blood pressure issues though.

Sounds like low blood sugar to me too - I'm prone to it when I'm not pregnant, as well as when I'm pregnant. Try to eat small portions often, choose protein where possible, it lasts longer, and if you feel it coming on (my hands shake, I have trouble talking, I'm a little confused) try to drink some juice or eat something sweet. Once you feel a little better, eat a real meal. Peanut butter sandwiches are perfect, but anything will do.

i'd speak with your care provider but yes it is likley it's low blood pressure or low blod sugar. I get very bad dizzy spells with this pregnancy, but my bloood pressure is perfect whenever it gets checked.. just have moments. eat and rest hydrate

When I was pregnant with my daughter, two times I was simply standing there, when suddenly I became dizzy, nauseous and shaky, and then everything would start to go black.

I'm pretty sure it was a temporary drop in blood pressure. It resolved both times by sitting down and breathing deeply.

I agree with the previous posters, it's likely low blood pressure and/or low blood sugar (I've had both numerous times). I often feel dizzy and black out, though I don't normally faint. Just make sure you sit down and chill for a bit. Having something sugary like Orange juice will help with the low blood sugar.

I have weird fainting spells, and have gathered that the baby is just pushing on my vena cava which is a major blood line... Sometimes the body has to restart itself. I also have low blood pressure.

Thanks so much for all your replies. They have been helpful. I am going to see my primary doctor this afternoon to rule out inner ear and heart issues. I hope it's a nothing too serious.

I also vote that it is likely low blood sugar. For me to keep my blood sugar stable, I need to start my meals with protein, and get enough fats. If I eat any carbs on an empty stomach, my blood sugar levels start swinging all over the place. Starting with protein prevents that overreaction.

The exact same thing happened to me. It was all about water and protein. Ever since I became super conscious about getting enough protein (80-100g daily) and water (96 oz+) daily I feel fine. If I ever slack on either I start to get anxious and dizzy.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

i had the same thing happen this pregnancy at about 15-16 weeks .. i got out of a hot shower in the morning after not eating anything .. i think for me it was a combination of low blood pressure and low blood sugar .. i had issues with low blood pressure at other times that weren't as bad as long as i ate enough..

Yep, it's happened to me too with both pregnancies! In my first pregnancy, it happened around 14 weeks. The room started spinning and I felt "drunk" and very dizzy. My eyes didn't seem to work properly and I had to sit down on a chair and it took awhile to feel normal.
This pregnancy it happened around 7 weeks. I saw someone I knew in a store and I ended up standing absolutely still for about 45 minutes while we talked (not a good idea), and all of a sudden I saw a bright white light, and my whole body broke out in a cold sweat (I could literally wipe sweat from my forehead), and I felt really dizzy, almost felt like I had a nasty flu hit me suddenly. I had to sit down on the floor in the middle of the drugstore, lol! After sitting down, it passed not too many minutes later. My midwife told me it sounded like low blood sugar, and she didn't sound very worried.
