So I know there are fifty bazillion threads out there about healing the adrenals. I'm wondering on simple things/supplements to help them from getting messed up in the first place. My DH as some health stuff going on that hasn't been totally figured out yet, but we're both very stressed about it. It will be likely be a few weeks before we know what's up.

Stay away from sugar and caffeine.
Eat some organs or take glandulars.

Herbs

A good multivitamin with plenty of Vit C

Extra magnesium. You can take a supplement or use epsom salts in a bath or plug up the shower.
Yoga.
Honestly, reducing stress however you can, even in the challenging times, is the BEST way to keep your adrenals from crashing.

Dr. Wilson's book is the best on adrenals

I would second the stay away from sugar and suggest the Primal Diet to reduce need for any insulin at all. Insulin is a hormone that effects all our other hormones.
