having problems for the first time DD 11.5 m/o!

first let me say we have been perfectly nursing since the moment she latched. we have had ripping off issues when shes distracted and teething always makes my right nipple raw and its painful.

so i believe shes teething right now and my right nipple is rather raw and excruciatingly painful. She did bite me and break the skin. i have still been nursing her and just bearing the pain. I have not noticed a lessened amount of nursing on that side...thats her "favorite" breast.

anyways my left breast is fine no issues at all and my right breast is seriously engorged. if i pump it KILLS b/c it is so sore even without doing anything. when she nurses i am in tears and its seriously an omg i cant take this anymore amount of pain. i dont remember my contractions hurting this bad and i had a drug free birth! lol

so i need suggestions...what to do about engorgement? is there ANY nipple remedy/cream or something to help heal and relieve the pain and rawness? lanolin does NOTHING and also its derived from petroleum so i dont want to use it anyway....

i need help mamas!!

Heat might help, you can put a towel in warm water and put it on there.

Does it feel warm to the touch? You don't think it is a plugged duct do you?

I agree that heat could help. I prefer Palmer's cocoa butter nursing cream over lanolin, but that's Petrolatum (U.S.P.), too, so I don't know if you want to try it. I'll be honest: when my nipples were torn up, I used a nipple shield. I know that there are pros/cons to that approach, but even getting a break for a few hours would help it start healing, and then nursing would help with engorgement. You could try hand-expressing as well.

I also agree with abimommy... are you sure it's not a plugged duct? Although if it is, I suppose the advice would be the same.

i dont think it is...it doesnt feel warm i have never had one in the past. whenever she teethes (im thinking) she bears down harder while shes sucking and theeth scrape it....but idk EVERY time its just the right beast...she keeps biting me and laughing when i saw ouch or no... my other nipple is still fine though.

Does it help if you football-hold her on the right side? Pretty hard with an older babe i know, but i'm wondering if it's positionally specific to the right side for some reason...?
