Jungle Theme Party for teen?

Hi all,

I am a single mom to my son who is turning 16 in a few weeks. He just informed me that he wants to have a "jungle theme" for his birthday party. I thought it was a little unusual to have a theme but he said he asked his friends if he should have a theme and apparently the consensus was "yes" LOL.

We are having this party at home, and I am one of the most uncreative people ever, unfortunately. I don't have very many crafty skills, so anything that might be simple to do would be appreciated! I'm trying to avoid just buying a theme kit or something from a party store, I'd like it to have a little more of a personal touch.

In the main party room decorate by hanging a bunch of green crepe paper from the celing to the floor as "vines". Tape some paper parrots onto the vines. Put a green light into the light fixture.

Make "jungle juice" (the non-alcoholic kind ). Have people dress up in leopard print and feathers. Serve good shade-grown coffee for educational reasons (ok, kidding on that one).

How much space do you have for the party? Is it indoor or outdoor, or both?

Well, I'm not sure for 16 y.o.'s, but some things I'd consider:

- in addition to crepe paper vines, you can buy big bags of rubber snakes, insects, spiders etc. at the dollar store or toy store, and use them for decorating - if you are doing loot bags, everyone can take some home

- cheap straw hats and bandanas for everyone to wear and get into the fun - again to take home at the end of the party.

- I like the jungle juice idea - I'd look for jungle food ideas, if you google "jungle birthday party food" a lot of links pop up

- music - some hokey old tunes like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", "Jungle Fever" etc.
