15 Month old suddenly kicking all night long

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out what's going on with my 15 month old son. We've always coslept since day 1. He will have occasional periods of tossing and turning a bit, but then will settle back down with me cuddling him and rubbing his back - until recently. All of a sudden, he kicks me all night long! He can seem to be completely out cold asleep, but still kicking the heck out of me. This just started about a week ago. About two weeks ago, we finally got him into a better pattern with bedtime. Previously he was fighting sleep until 10 pm or so. But then I read Sleepless in America and some of the tips in there were so helpful, we've been able to get him to bed by about 8 pm. At first it was great - we were all more rested! But then the kicking started. Is this because he's getting too much sleep now and he's too restless? Or is it a developmental thing and a coincidence that it happened a week after starting an earlier bedtime? Is there a way to stop it? I don't want to stop cosleeping yet, but it's getting really hard to sleep with him sharing the bed! TIA!

DD is almost 11 months and has periods of extreme restlessness at night. We're in the middle of one now, in fact. Last night she kicked, flailed, tossed, turned, rolled, you name it, from 2 until about 7, slept soundly for an hour, then went back to the wiggles until she woke at 9. She's perfectly rested--I don't think she's awake during her aerobics at all!

It drives me NUTS! I actually had a middle-of-the-night meltdown last night because I'm so terribly tired. (DH came in to help and then fell asleep! ARGH!!!)

So I have no advice, just reassurance that you're not alone. I wonder if it's her teeth (she has about 7 coming in), if she has gas (she's pooped every morning this week after being a little constipated), if it's a growth spurt... And I'm back to envying anyone who's leaving on vacation because I think, "Oh, you get to sleep in a nice, lovely hotel bed..."

My LO started kicking, tossing, turning, even climbing on top of us since he was around 14 months old, last night I even woke up and saw him sitting but completely asleep! And yes, by the way he moves while he sleeps, it would seem he thinks our king size bed belongs ONLY to him... Different bedtimes haven't worked for us, though.
