When should I start looking for a midwife?

When should I start looking for a midwife? Like meeting with them and choosing the one I feel is best for us?

I just had a blood test today confirm my 3rd pregnancy. I am only like 3 weeks along.

Just wondering if I should wait a few weeks to make phone calls or just start now.

I start calling as soon as the second line is visible without squinting, lol. But midwives around here get booked up quick.

The sooner you start looking, the more time you'll have to meet and sort through the options....you don't necessarily have to start care immediately if you feel good (don't need 1st tri advice), but having an idea of who you like--and how fast they book up! seems like a good idea to me.

As soon as possible. Ours are funded, and they have about 25 applicants for 8-10 spots every month. I was flat out told I wouldn't have got in if it weren't for how early I called. (And the fact that we're flat broke. )

I agree. I *almost* didn't get in with the one I wanted because I waited till 6 weeks to call - she had only ONE spot left for my due date timeframe! This is birth #3 for me - #1 was hosp CNM, #2 was HB but transferred to that CPM at 24 weeks when I convinced DH to do HB (and just got lucky to get in with her!). I figured I didn't NEED a MW this time till more like 12 weeks and felt silly calling so early but am so glad I did! Those other women must have called before the pee stick was even dry!

Ok. I made phone calls today. I have an interview with Potential MW #1 on Monday and then another with Potential MW # 2 on Wednesday. I have a huge list of questions... I hope that is ok. I guess now is not too early to meet with them lol. We only have 2 in our area... the next closest one is an hour and 25 min away, so hopefully one of these two will be perfect for us. I am so excited! I had hospital births with my 1st two and I really want a water birth this time.
