new baby and a toddler

DD1 is 23 months and still cosleeps. I'm due with number 2 between tomorrow and 6 weeks from now and I was 3 weeks early with DD so I'm assuming another week or two. The original plan was to have DD sleeping in her own bed for a good chunk of the night by now. Needless to say it hasn't' happened. What with one thing and another it's been easier to keep her in our bed. I really really don't want to cosleep with two since between DD and I we take up the entire king size bed, leaving very little room for DH, but I don't want DD to feel like we've kicked her out b/c of the baby. Has anyone else been through this?

I haven't been through this myself, but I wonder, would it work to get a small bassinet for baby's first couple of months while you gradually transition your toddler to her own bed? Or maybe sidecar a crib for baby, so you have more space for all of you? Good luck!

I have the same question so will be interested in the answers. For me I'm a single mummy so space isnt an issue. DS1 will be 20 months when I have new baby, due 27th feb. At the moment he is still BF at night and climbs all over me, so am worried about safety of new baby, also with having to change sides with newborn.
Was thinking of using my cotbed pushed up against side of the bed and keep newborn in there but that wont be practical with the changing sides issue!
Would love to hear what others have to say!

If your mattress is on the floor would a toddler bed/crib mattress on the floor beside your bed for the toddler work? My DD is 24mos now, I'm newly pregnant & just starting to wonder about how we're going to make the whole transition myself.

We're working on this right now. I'm 16 weeks preggo and we just bought DS (almost 23 months) a toddler bedm and put it in our room. We've had it about 1 1/2 weeks, and started off putting him down for naps in it. So far its worked everyday.

I think this weekend we're going to try starting off the night in it and brining him to bed with us if he wakes up.

Perhaps something like this would work for your DD? If she's slow to adapt, then perhaps have a bassinet next to the bed for the newborn until the older one adjusts. I was suprised at how much DS likes his "big boy" bed.
