Plastic - freezing foods for PP

I am about to start freezing food for after my baby comes. From my experience with my first baby, I need a lot of food stored up. The last time, I froze soups in mason jars. This was fine except that I don't have enough mason jars to freeze as much as I'd like to have ready, and they take up lots of space because they need extra head room to keep them from exploding as they freeze.
We've done very minimal plastic in the kitchen for years, and now I'm not really sure just how bad plastic is and which plastics are worse.

Ziplock disposable containers seem rather pricey at more than $1 each (priced at one store only). I'm not sure what they're made of.

I found PET containers online (but sold at a local supply house) for about $0.30 each (for 50 lids and containers).

How bad is it to buy disposable plastic containers for this purpose?

Are there better and affordable options?

Thanks,
Melinda

I contacted the company- they are not made of BPA, I don't know where you live but the are cheap and they offer coupons, I would look at the prices at other places---I get a BOX of freezer Ziplock (Hefty also has them and are BPA free as well) for under $3.00

freezing items flat in them saves lots of space

For me and my family, I feel comfortable freezing in plastic and reheating in other materials. I cool things before I put in the plastic (like I'll cool a soup/spaghetti sauce in the fridge, then bag it when cool), then I take them out of the plastic to reheat. But, yes, I use ziploc bags and containers primarily.

I hadn't thought of ziplock bags. I will price those at the grocery store when I go back.
Thanks ladies, I think I feel better about starting my PP freezer meal stash now!

one fyi dont scimp and get the cheap zipper bags. Buy the more expensive ziplock ones (they tend to be thicker) plus they have actual freezer bags which are way more substancial.

I wanted to make it clear- I use both bags and container of Zipplock/Hefty--the Zipplock (I think it is M size) is perfect for us for soup--they are square and pack well in the freezer, we re-use and re-use them--I have over 50 at this point in and out of my freezer and I also use the small round ones with the dark blue twist on lids (I find this is a good size for the end of soup that does not fit in an M, it is about 2 servings for our older family members-we give this size often)--just a thought on using them

the coupons run all the time in our papers and you can call them, they have sent them in the past to me as well

I personally avoid PET for storing food. Ziploc containers are polypropylene and the bags are polyethylene, both of which I feel fine using for storage.

Maybe you could get a better price on Amazon?
