Colorful glass jars

So um I found a set of REALLY pretty purple glass canisters with tops at the thrift store. I'm assuming since they're colored that they're not food-safe? What else can I use them to store? They're airtight but I'm scared of, I don't know, lead or something in the colored glass. Honestly I don't know if that's true or not but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hmmm - on the other hand, there are colored drinking glasses, right? I don't think I'd be too concerned about this but then, as said, better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't worry about it. In the very least you could store dry goods in there, pasta, rice, coffee etc.

I have a tall green glass pasta keeper that I store pasta in.

How awesome to have found some pretty purple glass with lids no less.

Why would colored glass be unsafe for food?
