Cutting the Cable help....

We have basic cable and we are cutting it off because of $. I know there is Hulu.com but what other free sites are there?

Can you use your TV still as a monitor? Or does everyone have to huddle around the laptop?

What about live streaming shows, sports and news? I can only watch so many movies can get bored with it.

Thing is we don't watch many regular channel shows. Well Biggest Loser, News, Today Show, Dr. Oz, Oprah, local programs, America's Got Talent. That is about it. Otherwise we ae History Channel, ESPN, FSN, Discovery Channe kind of people. Well the kids like Nick and Cartoon Network.

Suggestions?

If you've already got Netflix and a suitable device, like many game consoles, you can stream a lot of content. We just got Netflix and love it, but we aren't huge TV watchers and we don''t have cable. But there are TV shows, documentaries and a lot of movies (not new releases) for under $10/month.

We have Wii Fit Plus. Wonder how that would work....

It's pretty easy. We do it through the Wii. You contact Netflix and they send you a disc that you put in the Wii. You can browse through the Wii console or you can set up a streaming queue on the Netflix site, which I think is a whole lot easier.

I think you can go on the Netflix site and see what they have for streaming content so you get an idea if it's worth the $10/month to you, which also allows you one real DVD at a time. They may still have a one month free trial.

We use this on our PS3 and we love it! We'll never have cable again.

Doesn't your computer have a video out that is compatible with your tv? I can use the HDMI on mine.

This is what we do (I think ). We can either connect the laptop to the TV (just switch the TV to PC mode), or how we have it now is there is a computer tower set up directly to the TV. So, we essentially have a 42 inch monitor.

There are a ton of sites for free TV shows - my DH can find anything and either stream it live or we watch it the day after (like showtime shows).

What about sports...I could cut the cord on the TV if it wasn't for DH needing his Giants football
