Help!

My 8 month old intact son woke up with a red swollen penis this morning and I'm not sure what to do about it. His scrotum is also red. He's never even had a diaper rash before so I'm very concerned. We cloth diaper and I change him as soon as he wets so I know its not from sitting in a dirty diaper. His foreskin has never been retracted or even tugged at. He doesn't have a fever at all and is urinating fine and doesn't seem in pain when he does. He is however sore to the touch. Any information you can provide me would be very helpful. Thanks for reading!

Red, swollen, painful to the touch it could be anything from a rash to an infection I would bring him in to your pediatrician and have it checked out.

Also, my son was really red and a little swollen around that age too and it was normal separation redness. It went away after a couple days of baking soda bath time soaks.

If it is his scrotum along with his penis/foreskin sounds like a bad diaper rash. Maybe yeast or maybe just a regular one.

Be very careful if you do take him to the Dr. that he isnt retracted even a tiny bit with possible infection present this is even more important since it can make it spread.

My son had a bad reaction to fleece in cloth diapers (Fuzzy Bunz). Try to use 100% breathable (with no synthetics in them) cloth diapers with wool cover (or with no cover at least during the day when possible).

Thanks for the help everyone. I've let him go without a diaper all afternoon and it looks SO much better. The swelling is almost completely gone and its only slightly pink now. I'm stripping all of my diapers as I'm typing this just to make sure that nothing in them was causing this. I just switched to organic eco nuts to wash my diapers and I think that might be the cause.

I was going to suggest Burt's Bees diaper cream, but it sounds like good old naked time did the trick.

Switching detergent seems like a very likely cause. Good luck with the stripping.

I just love good ol' naked time!!

Hope baby boy is on the mend. Sounds more like contact dermititis than anything foreskin-related...
