DH in one bed, Mom & toddler in another?

We've been cosleeping since birth of DS (18 months). We started putting DS to bed in his own room in his big boy bed. We were bringing him into our bed when he woke in the night as it is too tiring for me to go back & forth. DH gets absolutely miserable if DS disturbs his sleep with the slightest whimper. So I started just staying in bed with DS. Now I'm pregnant again & I'm not sure what to do. I wish we could go back to the family bed or that DH would step up with the nighttime parenting. I have to nurse DS several times during the night or he will cry (& keep me awake!). I know DH would be a huge help but he's not that interested or says that he works & therefore is tired! Any advice, suggestions, or anyone out there who understands?

Can he take night duty on the weekends or at least take over in the morning and let you go back to bed? We did that during those first few months when it was just constant waking.
