Best Book About Raising A Son

What's your recommendation? I did a quick search on Amazon, and there are tons; some by women - I'd rather get a man's perspective - it seems like they would know how to raise a boy, having been one

Some are written just for Dads, some have titles like 'Let Boys Be Boys' which could either be really good or really bad...

I want a book that will help me let my son be a boy/grow into a man, and also teach me to help him feel like he can be caring and kind while also being a man and having good personal boundaries. Does that make sense? Thanks in advance for your replies!!

Was the book 'Raising Cain' any good?

Yes Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Health of Boys (I think I got the full title right but I'm just going by memory) is a very good read. I think it should be required reading for anyone who deals with boys.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but one thing I have noticed in books about boys is that they can have widely differing perspectives. For example, some viewed the male world as very hierarchal, with boys retreating to "the cave" when overwhelmed, while others focused on all the pressures and disadvantages that boys face in our society, leading me to feel real empathy for this gender. The authors come from different places depending upon their own gender, profession, and experiences. I picked up pieces of valuable info here and there, learning from all of them.

I'm editing this man hours later. Just wanted to say "thanks" for this great thread & the Raising Cain recommendation. I have been through the PBS site, and find it to be spot on and full of wonderful tips. I forwarded it to many other moms with boys.
