Hi all, I am new to the MDC community but not the infertility bit. I have one son 4 1/2 born via cesarean. The last year and a half has been really difficult. DH and I started not avoiding pregnancy in March of 2009. I chart and used FAM to conceive our little guy. After a year of TTC just using FAM, and 3 early miscarriages, we decided(Well I did) to go get us checked out. He was fine and I appeared fine. No ovulation issues, ovaries looked great after ultrasound, hormone levels were all in good spaces, and finally DH's sperm were good across the board. We waited a few weeks and then decided to get a HSG done.

After the HSG it has been totally nuts. I have a blocked left tube with the possibility of a hydrosalpinx(fluid filled pocket) Surgery was immediately recommended and I was totally against going that route. DH was very supportive of my choice to not go right to cutting me open. That was back in May...Fast forward to the end of July. 3 cycles later and we are still not getting anything to stick. What changed my mind...well DH and I did our own research and found that even women who choose IUI or IVF they usually have this surgery b/c the Hydro can lower conception and or cause miscarriages. In addition we thought about if we weren't TTC and found out I had some mass in my body...would I want it out, Yes.

Getting the surgery scheduled has been nuts. Insurance is a PITA! I had one date and then had to move it to 6 weeks later so that Ins. would cover it. Ugh! That is done and I am really not liking it but I have made a decision and am going to follow it through.

Sorry this has been so long and thank you for reading. If anyone has any advice having been through this surgery I am all ears. I have had my gallbladder out laparoscopically, but still nervous about it all.

I'm really sorry to hear about the blocked tube. So what happens in the surgery? Can they remove the fluid and try to open your tube? Or do they remove it? Good luck with your surgery & the whole red tape mess that is insurance companies!

With the results from the HSG there are 2 different things that could happen.

1: they will try and remove any adhesion's they see if that is what they see.(Lysis of adhesions)

2: If they see the Hydro they will just remove the tube(salpingectomy). It will keep it from spreading to the other tube as well.

They used to try and remove Hydro, but found that it did not help with getting pregnant. One of my big concerns is hat it spreads to my other good tube. I am trying to avoid IVF at all costs. It is just not something I want to do. I hate that we have been stressing over the money aspect thus far and cannot imagine planning to spend 10k-20k just to get pregnant. We work on a tight budget that allows us to do plenty of fun things as a family. I just don't want to think about how that could change our lives right now.

Thanks
