How much weight is safe to lose per week?

I have just re-joined WW and they say that 1lb per week is all. I am sure that I have seen other more current info that says more- but I am finding all kinds of things on the net.
I am EBF my 12 week old DD. I have no supply issues and want to lose at least 50lbs in 6 months.

btw- I started out my preg about 30lb overweight...and gained 65 while PG- have lost 30 no prob.

The first few weeks (up to 3 weeks) of a new diet may show extreme loss as your body adjust fluid levels and such and shouldn't be taken as an indication of how much fat you are really losing.

After that, up to about 2 pounds a week is considered safe.

I've heard 1-2 lbs a week is "safe." This is the case even in my case where I've had lap-band surgery. Although I've had weight-loss-surgery, they still suggest around 2lbs a week. I've had the doctor get concerned when I go in for my checkups and my loss average has been more than 2lbs.
I think the 1-2lbs rule it likely means you're making small, sustainable changes as opposed to drastic changes that you wouldn't be able to keep up long term.

I think the most important thing with breastfeeding is to make sure you're taking in enough calories to sustain your milk supply. I wouldn't worry too much as long as you're making milk and eating generally pretty healthy. I think the other concern is that people store toxins in their body fat cells and so a large loss can mean extra toxins being dumped which could show up in breastmilk.

Thanks! I will go for the 2lb without feeling guilty then! Will I know if my supply is dropping?
